  • But it seems that GDevelop can import actual 3D models which is a bigger difference than just being able to have a 3D layout in the editor. I know there are some addons that allow you to import 3D models, but how does that compare to GDevelop in terms of animation, 3D Physics and performance once all this is compiled.

I'm trying out a racing game and obviously it looks much better in GDevelop as I am using real 3D car models while in Construct cars were sprites and only the road and buildings were 3D shapes.

  • One cool program I discovered recently that made me immeadetly think about construct 3:

    crocotile3d.com

Maybe if we could have similar workflow in construct 3?

C3 is supposed to be easy to use, 3d modeling is not easy.

  • Blockbench is easier to use then Crocotile3d, and free.

    blockbench.net

But i think i am getting carried away.

  • I checked out both Crocotile 3D and Blockbench and they both are very interesting pieces of software for what they do. However though, having the ability to have a real-time 3D editor still in Construct 3 would be a much better workflow for one's project(s) in general. Waiting to see what C. Dev has coming this February with his 3D editor plug-in. Hoping it fills the bill for the need at hand for us all! ;)

  • Oh please make Construct 3 able to handle 3d models with editor!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • The creator of Crocotile 3D was actually a Construct user.

  • Currently working with FoozleCC on optimizing the editor tools and overall experience, also performance improvements now allow for way more shapes without large performance losses (tested 500-1000 without any major lags on a Windows 11 laptop)

Created a simple Gltf model renderer, pretty performant with Ashley’s new SDK for static mesh, very cool. Looking forward to the official 3d model renderer from Ashley!

    C. Dev - This seems to be coming along very nicely indeed! Cannot wait to try it out once it's released in February. Is there any new betas on the Collective site to try out other than what was posted not to long ago?!?

  • Ashley just seen the new 3D model feature! Truly impressive! Could you extend the editor API with a feature that allows us to access 3D model files? I've tried retrieving them like regular files or via a property value of a 3D model instance, but unfortunately without success..

Mikal If memory serves me correctly here, you are working on some sort of 3D editor yourself arent you with your MakeIt3D plug-in?

  • Ashley Huge thanks for the 3D feature! Is there any plan to add texture changes in the Actions? It feels like a very natural next step.

We must be patient, all good things come in time. Ashley and the team are always hard at work for the construct future for us all. ;)

  • Amazing news!

Ashley and team well-done, I know it's a lot of pressure.

I've been experimenting with 3D meshes lately, and adding a normal map to a 3D mesh allows you to make a shader material that's "really" 3D.

But having access to a 3D importer, I can just bake the normal map, so it's a series of RGB gradients, and inside C3 just do an honest-to-goodness 3D material.

I just make the shader do stuff to each of the pixels of the normal map, keeping the information but substituting the gradient colors for nice ones :)

Presenting to you: sand and gold.

Sadly, the lighting has to be per effect. But it's a proof of concept.

"All good things come with time” is true in principle, but in a competitive development ecosystem, time itself is a critical factor.

Quality, stability, and careful design do require patience. However, if important features arrive significantly later than in competing engines, their impact and relevance are reduced, regardless of how well they are implemented.

In other words, it is not enough for a feature to be good eventually; it also needs to arrive early enough to remain competitive, or at least in parallel with the rest of the market. Otherwise, developers who need those capabilities now will inevitably migrate elsewhere.

The concern many users raise is not about patience, but about Construct remaining competitive while that time passes.
