Official Construct 2 Manual

Well done for choosing Construct 2, the HTML5 game creator! No programming is necessary. This manual provides a complete reference of all of Construct 2's features.

The following pages will help you get installed and up and running with Construct 2, so you can start making your games as soon as possible. Later on the manual will provide a deeper reference of everything you can do with Construct 2. You might want to bookmark it and check the relevant sections while using Construct 2 - the manual may be able to answer questions you have before you need to go to the forum or ask someone.

Construct 2 also has links to the manual in various dialogs and menus to help you jump directly to the relevant manual page for that part of the software. Finally, dedicated users may want to read the manual to learn about all the possible features you can take advantage of. There may be many hidden gems you didn't know about, but are documented here in the manual.

Manual vs. Tutorials

The manual is designed to be a comprehensive reference. If you would prefer to get going quickly with a step-by-step guide, try the Beginner's Guide to Construct 2 tutorial. There are no step-by-step guides in the manual: it simply explains what each individual feature does.

The tutorials in the Tutorials section on Construct.net have a separate purpose to the manual. Not only are they good for step-by-step guides, but they also are good at bringing together groups of related features and describing how they can work usefully together. For example, the tutorial on supporting multiple screen sizes describes how the Fullscreen in Browser setting, layer Parallax setting, Anchor behavior and some system expressions can be used to smoothly support different screen sizes for your game. The manual does not tell you how to support multiple screen sizes. It does describe each of those features individually in detail. However, it would take some dedication and intuition for the reader to find all those in the manual, read and understand them, and then see how they can cooperate to support multiple screen sizes. The tutorial saves you this effort by describing them all together. So remember the manual explains what things do, and tutorials explain how to use things together. You should use both the manual and tutorials to gain a good understanding of how to use Construct 2.
