  • Ashley just posted this in chat, regarding 0.99.4:

[quote:n4245kh7](18:16:48) Ashley: - [FIX] Could not save applications with a music resource

    So hey, there you go

  • Confirmed the crash. There's no tracker item for it, do you want to post the bug report, or shall I?

At any rate there is another known issue regarding sound resources. Even if you were able to save the .cap with sounds in the Sound folder, you wouldn't be able to use them anyway because the resource list doesn't show up in any XAudio2 actions. The workaround for now is to load external sounds. Rich is working on it.

  • If you like RPG games then play Fallout 1 & 2. They're pretty much awesome. Though 1 has a better story and 2 has a better interface.

Haven't played 3 yet, so I can't comment on that one.

  • When I was growing up I was a total Nintendo fanboy. But now the only Nintendo franchise I'm not sick of yet is Zelda. But I started to get a little queasy with Wind Waker, and felt a little twinge in my stomach with Twilight Princess. If they don't do something truly new with the next game, it'll probably be my last Zelda game.

I swear to god, if there is a fire temple with a fire boss, a water temple with a water boss, ice temple & ice boss, forest temple etc., I will blow chunks. FIND SOME NEW FRIGGIN THEMES. Or better yet... don't have themes for the dungeons. Take a page from Ico or SotC... sure, parts of SotC could be considered "themey," but it was very well disguised.

Anyway, I'm quite tired of the same old game and the same old characters dressed up in fancy new graphics. Mario Galaxy was kind of interesting for a moment, but once the novelty of the gravity gimmick wore off I had to force myself to finish the game because it wasn't really all that interesting and wasn't very different from previous games. It was basically just Mario 64 with better graphics and funky gravity. And now they're putting out Mario Galaxy 2... wtf, why? It just seems like a cash grab to exploit the current generation of fanboys who grew up with the GameCube and haven't gotten totally sick of playing the same games over and over again. Yet.

    Grr. </rant>

  • this is just and excuse not to work on the onin pgin

I think Rich understands how important his work on cloning pigeons is.

  • I believe Rich is aware of the Clone Layout issue. If I recall correctly, his response was something like "whoops, I forgot it lol."

It should be back in a future build.

As for copying events... that's what including event sheets is for . You game logic should pretty much all be made on separate events sheets that you include as needed. The only events on the sheets attached to layouts should be events that do something specific for that layout. That way you don't ever have to copy/paste any events at all.

  • Good to know you finally got to the root of the problem.

Sounds like it's an issue with modal layouts rather than with XAudio2. I don't know much about modal layouts though.

  • Yep. You can ignore control input with an action, which makes the platform object autonomous. Then use events to make it jump or set the direction and speed.

  • Thank you for that masterful non sequitur, Sagal.

  • What were they created with? What was their bit depth and sampling rate?

I've noticed that wave files made at 8 bit or 22.05kHz with SFXR often times won't play in Construct, even if they play in other audio programs. Converters and sound editors might add funky header information that Construct doesn't like, as well. Or so I've heard. So it might not have been a Construct issue. Well, not totally anyway.

Suffice to say you should be able to autoplay .wavs no problem, especially if they're short.

Anyway, if you still have the originals you might be able to open them in something like Audacity and re-save them. That usually fixes any sounds that are broken for me.

  • Ok, sure if the text is moving.

Timedelta isn't just for movement, it's for ensuring that anything you manipulate over time will run at the same speed on different machines. Fading something using timedelta is totally kosher.

Usually for fading stuff though I just use Every X Milliseconds.

  • Try Construct 3
