  • Hey, guys!

I just wanted to let you know I uploaded a free Construct 3 template on Itch.io:

    https://sleepingpandagames.itch.io/gameboy-like-color-transition-template-for-construct-3

This is a Construct 3 sample project with 3 native functions that can be used to mimic the GameBoy color transition animation you can see in GB games. This C3 project is very tiny so that you can easily add it to existing projects or new ones.

It uses C3 native plugins AJAX, and JSON to make things work. Color palettes and their respective RGB values are stored in a simple .json file that we can load into our C3 project using one simple AJAX call.

I hope this can be useful to you.

Let me know if you need help, or if you'd like to suggest new features.

  • I have been through this issue several times since I have been using Construct 3.

I often work on two different computers: my PC tower and a macOS laptop.

The issue happens sometimes when I work on a machine, save my changes, wait for these to sync via Dropbox and then open the project file (using Dropbox again) on the other machine.

I found out that this issue happens when I use different versions of Construct from one computer to another. I would expect Construct to put that warn message about this, but sometimes a file got corrupted and so this error "failed to open project. check if it is a valid Construct 3 single-file" appears.

I could solve this issue by switching the Construct 3 version of one computer to the same as in the other one (stable to beta or vice-versa) and could finally open the project back.

I think mostly it is an issue with the Construct 3 version your file has been saved to, and for some reasons your file got corrupted while not saving it properly the last time you worked on it.

If you don't remember the C3 version you used to save your project to, you can still rename the .c3p file to .zip and unzip it. Then you should be able to check the saved version used in the config file of your project. You can even change it here, and open the file in the same Construct 3 version. That's how I also could fix this.

  • Finally finished the journal/menu UI setup. Had a lot of help from ProUI.

LukeW I didn't know you're using Construct too. I'm so glad to discover this today. :D

I see that we have more and more powerful projects made with Construct. That's so cool!

    Keep up guys 🤙💪

I didn't know we can find such information here.. Ty guys!

Now that I know where info are it truely makes sense, but I think that when you're on the Overview page it is not so user friendly to understand

  • Salman_Shh Doing a non-violent game can be tricky, but it can give a lot of interesting mechanics as well as strategies to make it unique. I'm not doubting on you.. ^^' But.. Imagine.. Player's gun is in fact a 'tear gas' gun that makes enemies sleep for a few seconds. You don't have a lot of bullet, just a few like one per level. You start with none, and have to reach that bullet first, then find your path and use your one tear gas bullet subtly so that you can get to the next room.

Well, just an idea ofc.. ^^'

As CreativeMind said, negociation could be very fun as well. Have you seen 'Casa Del Papel' serie? It could give you a looot of inspiration as one of their goal (ofcourse after stealing money) is to be non-violent.

Enough talk.. That's your game :P But I needed to say this.. ^^'

  • Salman_Shh This GIF shows how to catch an hostage (hope it's the right word), right? This is so cool!

I started working on a thwomp-like mechanic for my platformer game.

I got some help from Mateus Sales with his easy-to-use C3 templates. I'd recommend them to anyone.

P.S.: Ofc it is using placeholders that I will change soon.

  • dop2000 Thanks for the info.

Why haven't you removed your game? These scammers are profiting from it and not paying you any money..

That's a good question, and a good argument as well.

The thing is Bikosaur is my first game, and I told myself that this could be the one which I could try several things no matter it succeeds or fails so that I can learn a lot for next more serious projects.

You're right I should probably remove my game from their store anyway. x)

aryd What publishing/distribution sites/companies do you recommend for games developed in Construct 3?

I looked into Google, Amazon and Facebook, but they have so many hoops to jump through to get published.

I guess it depends on your game type, what you want to do with it, and your audience.

  • I'm sorry to answer so lately.. Dev989 summarized all, don't consider this platform.

Despite they're not paying, they also lie about any 'featuring' possibilities.

They told me that it could possible to feature my game on the homepage, but ofcourse they never did.

They told me that there is an issue in my game that breaks it on their platform, but it was an issue on their side.

My game is here: gamedistribution.com/games/bikosaur – But I highly suggest you to not loose time with this platform, they don't seem to care about indie developers at all.

  • I decided to give gamejams a go this summer, so I decided to take part of the GBJAM 7.

    Here is my entry:

A Ghost Story is a story driven RPG with some puzzles to solve.

Play a ghost that doesn't know he is one.

Solve puzzles, and help him remember what happened.

Hopefully you will meet a cute friend along your way.

I tried to tell a story, but it may end suddenly since I ran out of time.

It also means you might find some unwanted glitches or bugs somewhere, even if I tried to solve as much as possible.

Let me know your feedbacks, and thoughts.

If people do like it, I may consider making this prototype a real game.. And why not a ROM version so you could play it on your fav emulator, or GameBoy console..

A big thanks to @lotusotho (Alejandro Ramos) for his 3 theme songs despite the last minute rush!

  • Thanks everyone for your kind words! NoSoul8

I can see it is the same author as the bikosaur game ;)

    cute one antoine

fredriksthlm Yes I am hehe 😁

Cute and gives me crash bandicoot vibes for obvious reasons

WackyToaster This is clearly intended. Crash bandicoot series made all my childhood, so.. I wanted to add some boxes logic to a 2D platformer and see how it goes. 😊

Saw some screenshots of this on Twitter a while back and thought it looked so cute! Nice to see progress is being made :)

AySquirrel Thanks, man! Still a lot to do, but now that I'm quite satisfied with this prototype I can focus on what's next for the release hopefully next year

  • Ok, guys! It's time for me to present my upcoming game:

Baby Dino Adventures – A cute platformer in which you help a baby T-Rex find his parents.

    Info

Back in Summer 2017, I released my first game called Bikosaur.

With Baby Dino I'm trying to tell the story behind it.

I started working on the game for one year now.

I did a major update this past week-end with a lot of changes and enhancements.

I decided to start a thread on this forum so you can follow my progress until the big day.

I plan to release the game first on Steam, then Xbox One, and then on mobile.

I'm quite unsure yet about when, but it will probably be by next year.

For now if you could already give it a try and send me your feedback, it'd mean a lot to me!

I'll try to keep this thread up-to-date with my upcoming progress.

    Cheers!

  • Oh, dear Lord! An octocat on our desktop computers :D

  • Hey, guys!

I released a touch-friendly dpad template for free on itchio: 🕹DPad Template for Construct 3

c3p file, sprites, and .ase file are included

    - - -

    What the hell is this?

    This is a free Construct 3 project with a touch-friendly 🕹DPad controller.

This C3 project is very tiny so that you can easily add it to your existing or new project.

It only uses ~15 lines of events, the Touch behavior, one variable for debugging, and the new built-in function.

    Ok, but why?

I'm currently building my 2nd game which a cute 2D platformer called Baby Dino Adventures.

A lot of people are expecting the game to be released on mobile, so I started to make it touch-friendly. I really wanted a DPad controller for the game, so I started creating one, and here we are.. 😄

    So, what's included?

    Downloadable zip file contains:

    1. a .c3p file which you can use with Construct 3 to try the demo, and copy/paste code/assets into a new/existing C3 project;
    2. a .ase file which you can open in Aseprite to see/edit DPad sprites;
    3. a .gif file which is an export of the .ase file in case you don't own Aseprite, and want to edit DPad sprites;
    4. all exported DPad sprites as transparent png's.

    Final words

I hope those assets will help you.

I know it's not a lot stuff included, but I really wanted to keep it as simple as possible so that you can use it straightforward into your Construct 3 projects effortlessly.
