  • I love Construct 2, but I've been looking at returning to Linux as my OS for a while now, it would be amazing if Construct 2 would be ported to support it, I know its not something that couldn't happen over night and with such a small dev team I don't see if being done anytime soon.

I found that 'GameDevelop' through a friend who linked me to it, its pretty great actually, as with most open source things as of late. I will likely be using that over C2 once I do make the switch from Windows to Linux. I'm looking into another possibility too though, I suppose if I can get my hands on a cheap laptop (windows based) I can continue to use Construct 2 on that.

In any case, it would be great to see this eventually

I think my solution should work find for now, using a pre-owned laptop that I can hopefully find for cheap to just use for my HTML5 game developing needs after all, I still have my copy of windows 7 here XD - Sorry guys just kinda thinking out loud through my reply :S lol

So, +1 to Linux support from me for whenever it may be possible!!

    Regards,

    Patriick

  • OK, no problem... I'll be around for at least another 3-4 hours maybe even longer =]

  • Here, I was taking a break from working on something and threw this together in about 15mins maybe 20 after altering some colours...

I don't know if you will want to use it for not, and all I had to go off of was a sword, a shield and the game's name from your freelancer post, but you're free to use this if you want XD, if not I will still likely include this in my portfolio after a little cleanup, if you don't mind?

as for an animated intro, you could likely get someone to animate the sword and shield slightly and give the text a highlight animation of sorts... You'll still need someone to come up with the background graphics and such though =]

    Here:

    <img src="http://i.imgur.com/o9IaN94.png" border="0" />

Actual size: with the rest of the screen based on the zelda 2 intro resolution: (exclude the lighter border)

    <img src="http://i.imgur.com/c3ycYg1.png" border="0" />

Zoomed in a little to see it a bit better:

    <img src="http://i.imgur.com/BciWOLV.png" border="0" />

If you want to use it and the original file just send me a message and I will send you the original file, it's created in Paint.net with two layers, once for the text and one for the shield and sword. It may need a little work but its my offering to you for free XD lol

    Kind Regards

    Patrick

    [Edit]

    I've made the 'D' look more like a 'D' :P

  • Ok here is my proper response to your post...

Are you trying to get an authentic NES look?

If so, here is some information that will help you out a lot, the screen resolution used on those old school games is set to 256 x 240 and uses 16 x 16 tiles. To top that off there is a 64 colour palette limit that you should use, to keep it looking authentic.

I could be a little off with that information but I'm pretty sure it is quite accurate... Here, I grabbed a link that may help you a little.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_videogame_consoles_palettes#Nintendo

If you wanted to just emulate the look with an updated feel to it, of course you can increase the dimensions and colours some, as technology and hardware have come some way since those times, but ultimately the more you add the less of that NES feel you will get.

Personally I am not as familiar with the more technical stuff related to that NES colour palette and visual restrictions, I just know what I have shared here, some people look this up extensively and may be able to offer more help than me but my reason for mentioning this stuff is to figure out what you're looking for exactly, and if it truly is that retro look. It may also help you with your freelancer post in what you need too...

    -----

I cannot see your character image due to not having an account and I won't be registering just for that, sorry...

If I am able, I may throw something together later under the resolution limit posted above if that is what you're looking for?

    Kind Regards

    Patrick

  • I'm just eating breakfast but I will reply to this fully shortly, there is a good bit of info I can pass on to you that may help you with this and also I don't use those freelance sites too much, it never works out in my favor and my email inbox gets filled with spam :( (based on my experience with a couple of them) I am sure they work for some people though =]

    Regards,

    Patrick

  • Great stuff, thanks for sharing! :P

Hello again everyone! I'm posting this on behalf of EncryptedCow

Recently EncryptedCow and I worked on a small game for a competition over at www.Fimaru.com, sadly the website seems to have been abandoned after we submitted our little game. So instead of just leaving it to clog up HDD space, we decided to upload the game to Clay.io and GameJolt then we entered it in the Ludum Dare October Challenge, to add to the few small games that we?ve worked on and get something else up and out there for people to play? While we continue with MCE. <font size="2">(</font>What Is MCE? - Click Here)

    A Little About Elemental Balance:

The game was made around the theme given by the creator of ?FiMaRu? and the theme this time was ?Balance? hence the name? So with that said, here is a little more about the actual game and how you play it.

You?re a god, and your goal is to balance out atoms within your universe and stop it from imploding, atoms are consistently spawning and if you don?t manage them its game over and your universe will implode. (Although there is no visual to that, besides a game over screen) You can balance these atoms out by choosing an opposing element and casting with your god like powers to eliminate the atoms that your ?spell?? comes into touch with. You have the ability to slow down time and this gives you a chances to alter spawn rates of the atoms! ? The game will continue until you lose, so get going and rack up a nice high score!!

Sadly there are no high score leader boards, but we have added 10 achievements using Clay.io (this version is not yet uploaded, but will be sometime soon!)

The goal of the LD challenge is to earn at least $1 from your entry... By playing our little game here you will be helping towards that through the ad impressions, so we would appreciate you playing this free game :P and also giving us some feedback could help improve it... We're looking to get back to MCE as soon as possible and will likely post loads of exciting updates for that in the near future.

Finally, some screen shots of the game :P

    <center>Our Previous FiMaRu Entry:

Before this, we worked on another small game for the same competition, but sadly we were unable to finish it, however, it?s very playable. The theme was 2 Player. You can also check this game out, here is a link?

  • UPDATE!

I've updated the game's character graphics, or at least I have uploaded an image of how they're currently looking, still not finished but further along the way now =]

Let me know what you think so far and if you like the direction the graphics are heading in? - Any feedback is welcomed however, know that these are WIP's (works in progress)

    Kind Regards

  • HAHA!

Very nice... This is quite entertaining!

I don't quite know what to suggest, but this is a nice little fun and enjoyable game right here, I would like to see what you do with it.

    That's quite nice =]

Really the above image I posted was just the rough Logo concept (idea) I like what you have done here but the colours of the robot are a little merged together in a way... These colours could work nicely in something like a splash screen but this logo was designed to be used on other such things too XD

I really do like that gradient Blue glow around the robot's head, can you give me the colour code for that please?

    Thanks for the share :D

    Kind Regards

    > InkScape is great for vector stuff and such but you won't have as much freedom or control as using something like GIMP or Paint.net for pixel art =]

Creating detailed sprites isn't inkscapes forte, but it is great for producing higher resolution images (imagine trying to create a 128x128 sprite pixel by pixel...)

Well in all honesty you wouldn't usually unless tiling tiles or using filters within Paint.net to help with that =]

I agree though with the use of Inkscape for higher res images, it makes more sense in most cases :P

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums, I think that I had an account a very long time ago but I have since lost the info and the e-mail I used to use, so here I am and this is my first post :P

I recently worked with two friends on a small game for Ludum Dare, the two friends are: Joshua Boomhower, Evan Leider (and myself Patrick Griffiths) it was a rushed game that we ended up spending around 20-24hrs on, due to the time difference... We have decided to take the game further and add more content, more of the story which we were unable to add in the Ludum Dare build. We want to add more character and humour to the game well, there is not much humour in the game if any currently, but it's something we will be working on!

A little brief of the story:

There is an Evil corporation that is about to begin mass producing robots that they intend to use to take over the world. They've secretly built tons of facilities all around the planet in many locations to ensure their victory. To combat this the government has put together a team of the best scientists and tasked them with building a robot that could aid them in their mission to save the world. The robot that they initially create is the first of the X series Espionage bots... Considered to be a failure... Whilst the scientists put through for the destruction of our little hero, his A.I kicks in after being slammed down in the storage room, he escapes the compound to begin his mission, half cocked and on his way our player will have to help guide our little bot to success or face the worlds population being dominated by an evil corporation. Our little hero's goal is to obtain and destroy the memory chip containing the schematics for the evil bots. (the story will be updated with much more detail and such later down the line but this should give you a rough idea of what's going on in the game=])

Just to keep the post tidy I will link to them for now, until i can make more forum friendly versions of them =]

Here is the Ludum Dare page too

    What We Have Planned:

    • Well first off, we would like to involve the story in the game a lot more from the get go, with the Ludum Dare we just couldn't incorporate it into the game properly at all, we simply didn't have the time, but... Now we do!!
    • We want to add some humour and life to the main character, although he is a robot who's to say his AI cannot simulate emotions and show off his 'glowing personality' lol
    • We will be adding many more puzzles and gameplay elements to the game but also gradually introducing the player to them, with this current web build you kind of get thrown into a level with all of the mechanics we created and unless you go over the tutorial level you will not have a clue. We will be incorporating the tutorial into the introduction to the game via a cutscene and limited gameplay as the character is introduced to his mission and the game world.
    • Along with more puzzles we have a good few AI planned too!!
    • The graphics are going to be completely recreated from the ground up, and you will see in the introductory level how and why our player has a wheel instead of his two legs...
    • We're currently using Construct 2 for the game and we used that for the Ludum Dare but Josh is currently going over some Unity related stuff so that he can get acquainted with that engine, and once the new native 2D tools are released in this next Unity update we will be making the switch over to that, but until then we will continue prototyping the game within Construct 2.

    <font color="red">Small Updates:</font>

Here is a preview of the current graphical updates so far, now that I have the time to increase the detail and such I will! I know they're not perfect and they actually need a fair amount of cleaning up but these are a work in progress and also just a preview :D

    <img src="http://i.imgur.com/KY4qf2C.png" border="0">

Well, I hope that you've enjoyed checking this Devlog out so far, I promise to bring more updates as often and as fast as I can... At least, as fast as life will allow :P (I know many of you should get that:P)

    Kind Regards
