  • spacedoubt - the same games have been there for as long as I can remember - people like seeing fresh stuff. I'm not saying remove them, just update with new content and keep some sort of special page dedicated to standout content.

OddConfection - thanks for the heads up, I've somehow missed that Hopefully it will be considered in the future.

  • Hi Ashley + Scirra team

I just read your blog post, regarding promoting developers games via social media, and I have to say - I love you guys!

I just wanted to ask, whether you would consider 'Front Paging' standout games on the Scirra website?

I think this would lead a lot of newcomers, to form a quicker decision, on whether to use the software or not. It would also provide some proof/inspiration, to people having problems in getting their games on mobile etc.

I think this a great opportunity and works both ways. It is free advertising for Scirra/C2, and it helps developers in return.

Please let us know whether this is something you would be willing to implement in the near future

PS. Thank you for an awesome product!

  • [quote:ffwfcdab]Good luck with the competitors that will offer Native and HTML5 export with a visual editor.

TheRealDannyyy - I respect your opinion, but from my experience this is not as lucrative as it sounds. I've tried multiple visual editors that offer HTML5 and Native (eg Stencyl, MMF2.5, Godot etc.) and I find that none of them do everything well. They try to foucs on covering everything (jack of all trades) and evrything ends up slightly broken + it never gets fixed, because the resources aren't there for the maintenance.

In these "jack of all trades engines" , there are usually very big problems with performance (HTML5), scaling bugs and I could go on.

Construct 2 does HTML5 very well - to the point that I can be confident offering licences to sponsors, as I know my game won't break - and if by any chance it does, I know that the Scirra team is on top of it and any critical bugs will be fixed soon.

The other issue is that I'm yet to find an engine in which you can put a game together as quick as you can in C2 - this alone makes C2 trump anything out there.

In my search for a replacement too for Flash, I stumbled upon engines like "Spark", which is about a year overdue for its beta release - which leads me to believe, that even once it's out, the updates will be few and far between. Quite frankly I would be surprised if anything came out, that would flawlessly export to all platforms without any issues. I don't believe, that these companies have the resources to maintain their engines from that many angles (sufficiently).

C2 is a quality product which I feel confident using, my latest game runs smoothly on an iPhone 5s which is already generations behind.

I personally fully support Scirra in sticking to their guns (HTML5), focusing on whats important, and do it well (like they have been doing).

PS. People also forget that HTML5 is a market of it's own and can be monetized just like the app store.

  • No disrespect, but I actually completely disagree with the title of this topic.

I used to do a lot of work in Flash, and about 2-3 years ago when Flash started going down hill, I started looking for another engine to use.

I tried everything from Construct 2, Corona, Stencyl, MonkeyX, Multimedia Fusion 2.5. Panda Engine, Phaser and MANY others.

I wanted to be best equipped to make a decision on which engine I would choose to work with in the future.

When I first used Construct 2 (2-3 years ago), I wasn't blown away by the performance and was comparing HTML5 to Flash. I was also using C2 wrong in many ways.

Recently I've come back to it and I genuinely believe that it's one of (if not the best) engine money can buy. I found so many useful improvements, not just performance, but small things like being able to drag scenes around and so on.

C2 is the most updated / bug free software I've ever used. I can get my 'flash style' games running in a browser on an iPhone 5s at 60fps. The creators of C2 also frequently communicate and reply to questions on the forum.

Every single other engine I've used had issues. Ranging from graphical flaws, to unsupported features to game breaking bugs and so on. If you only look at the 'other engines' forums, you will see a whole bunch of people complaining about all sorts of stuff.

The exponential improvements in mobile devices are so fast now, that I personally don't believe it has a point thinking about going native, (if you're making 2d games). Native engines have problem too and plenty of them.

I've recently noticed a more and more C2 games on the app store front page (I've even made a C2 folder on my phone - just to keep track of them).

I honestly think that give it a couple of years and the whole native vs html5 dilemma will be redundant.

[quote:17evpfr9]I don't think anyone properly appreciates how many people are successfully publishing Cordova/desktop games with Construct 2. If everything works fine, there's not much reason to post to the forum. If things don't work, people tend to come and post on the forum. I think this creates a distorted perception that these tools are not working at all. For the most part, I think they are working fine. That's not to say nobody has issues with them, there are bugs and issues like with any technology, but I think it's blown out of proportion.

Ashley - I completely agree and that's why I think it would be awesome to showcase as much of this stuff as possible, that way existing and potential customers would see what's possible

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I would also be happy, if we could change the styling of the preloader inside C2. Something like width / height / color.

A few customization settings would be awesome

  • HI guys,

I have a long Spriter object which starts outside of the C2 layout and stretches down.

The problem is that if I place the Spriter object outside of the C2 layout, it doesn't appear.

If I place it inside the layout, it appears no problem, but doesn't solve my issue.

Is there any way to work around this?

    Thank you for your help!

PS. I managed to get this working, by changing the "Animation Export Box Size" - I don't however understand why this makes a difference, as I'm not exporting a sequential animation.

If anybody could shed some light on this, that would be awesome

  • Hi lucid

I've had the Spriter Pro license for a while, but only just started learning how to use it and it is a great tool.

Any chance you guys will add a "Snap to grid" for bones and images in the near future (along with a customizable grid)? I could really use this feature in my workflow as I rely on precise setups etc.

Please let me know if this is something you guys are considering

    Thank you in advance!

  • Hi TheRealDannyyy

    Thank you for the ideas!

What about just wrapping a folder structure?

For example, I create an index.html outside of C2, with thumbnails linking to games, then include folders with several C2 games - then inside the games I provide a button to go back to the index.html?

  • Hi guys

Would it be possible to wrap (using Cocoon JS or another wrapper) an entire website (including C2 games) as an app for mobile?

Basically, I'm thinking of creating a mobile version of my site, which would have several c2 games on it. I would like to wrap the website, and give people free updates, when new games come out. I've seen similar apps made by a few of the html5 portals.

Just throwing around ideas here, but I'm wondering if something like this would work?

    Thank you for any feedback

  • Hi byondisoft - Thanks, I'm happy you like it Yup, everything apart from the music and sfx is done by me. The music is royalty free (I buy it from opuzz.com) and the sfx are mostly from soundjay.com + some I bought from thegamecreators.com. I enjoy making the graphics and animations, but I'm used to working with tweens and containers a lot, so it took me a while to get used to how things work in C2. Really happy with the workflow now tho.

  • Hi guys

Here is my latest game, and the first of the series made in Construct 2.

    http://ninjadoodle.com/clickplaytime-6/

Have fun and please let me know what you think

    ***

It's been a long learning curve, but I've figured out a LOT about C2, making this game.

There are a few features that I'm missing, and I think the engine could use ( especially native tweens + containers). I currently use Litetween (which is great), but wish that C2 had it's own tweeting engine. I also feel that using pins is a pain and wish C2 had a "container feature".

Apart from that, using C2 has been an awesome experience. It's very stable and I love the performance of the published html. Once you understand how the "eventing" works - as opposed to let's say Javascript, everything is really quick and efficient. C2 is a really good piece of software.

  • Hi guys

    - Thank you for the tips, I already use global layers

annauva - Thanks heaps, that's exactly what I was looking for!

  • Hi guys

I'm trying to copy some objects from a layer in one layout into a layer in another.

Is there a way to "paste in place"? I always have to manually reposition the objects.

    Thank you in advance!

  • Yes please!!! Definitely leaderboards and achievements + cloud save! This would rock sooooo much

  • Hi Kyatric - Thanks heaps, that's exactly what I was looking for
