  • This was fixed in IRC, yeah? Or is this a different one?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Well, it seems to be set up pretty well from here. You don't really have to use image points the way you are though, you can get the x/y position of the edges of the sprites in the expression editor.

As for the slope problem, you could use containers for your slopes. Make two different slope objects, both exactly the same size and shape. One will be your solid that toggles on and off, and one will be your continuous detector that you can check for per-pixel overlap. Since they're contained it will pick the proper instances so you can check overlap on the one and turn solid on/off on the other.

  • Nice little concept for a game

Perhaps larger/fewer targets are in order? And maybe stagger the rows so there are fewer falling stars that just fall straight through.

  • Well, it did start working again last night so I don't know what's up.

  • After a two month hiatus I've finally returned to working on my tutorials. Hopefully within the next couple of days I can get the first couple out.

    Fingers crossed

  • Hmm, is it down right now? I can't connect.

That's probably a good thing, seeing as how I never get any work done when I can connect.

I know that, I'm just saying for his particular example

I know that too, I was just telling machrider, and other people in general who might be reading this thread

  • "Get number of objects" can be used in any expression, not just system compares. You access it from any expression editor by clicking on the object you want to count.

  • lol

<Aeal5566> the only thing os related i have is plug and play o/s

    <SoldjahBoy> yeah turn that on

<SoldjahBoy> its bascially the same thing

<SoldjahBoy> some bios settings are different per board

<SoldjahBoy> try turning that on, it should reset DMA data

    <Aeal5566> okay

<SoldjahBoy> hopefully that will do the job

<AshleysBrain> then, submerge your computer in water

    <AshleysBrain> that ALWAYS fixes it

  • For the lagging, that's not normal. Does your system meet the requirements? Do you have a lot of other stuff running at once?

As for the megaman style scrolling, you don't need to have separate layouts at all. You can build a scrolling system that does all the scrolling in one layout.

Make a separate object called "camera" or something like that. When your player is moving normally, have the system center to the player's x,y position, and have the camera set itself to the center of the screen. When they're in certain areas (at the edge of the place where you want to scroll) then stop the system from centering on the player. Then when they leave the screen, freeze the movement and have the camera move one screen forward (or down, whatever) and have the system center on the camera instead. When the camera stops, resume the player's movement.

  • Ashley, might I make a suggestion? It might be a good idea to have the art packs separate, rather than bundled with Construct. Sort of like an "Extras" bonus pack. Everything could be set up in proper sprite or bg tile format already, with their animations or whatever (for when Construct supports cross-cap copypasta).

They could even be bundled with Sound packs of royalty-free sounds.

The only reason I suggest that it should be separate is, while it's nice to have art and sound resources available to those who need it, most people don't really need it. It would just be a waste of space for them. Sure, some people might use them for their own learning purposes but for the most part people are going to want to use their own art and sound in their projects. (To draw a comparison, take a look at the packs that Clickteam have for their products... only rarely do you ever see projects that actually use them. Though you do see the default blue diamond a lot .)

And I suppose I could be bothered to contribute some tiles and sound effects to the cause. Though I'd also want to somehow include information on where users could go to find resources on how to create their own. I'm all about fostering independence .
