Both of them measure 5-10% CPU for me. The iPhone 4 is pretty old and is stuck with iOS 7 - now four versions behind - so if you only see a difference there, it may just be that old versions of Safari don't optimise the JavaScript so well.

Try PhoneGap Build. You can also use Construct 3's build service with Construct 2 exports. As of the latest C2 betas, the export can also be used with the Cordova CLI for manual local builds.

Also if the problem only reproduces on one specific device, that suggests our code is correct (because it works everywhere else) and that there is a bug with the device - graphics driver bugs are very common.

If you're using preview-over-wifi, it uses insecure HTTP (not HTTPS), which by default blocks security-sensitive features like geolocation.

I could not measure any significant difference between the two. Could you produce a minimal .capx demonstrating the problem? It also helps to provide two already-prepared .capx files so there don't need to be instructions to follow to modify them, I could have done something wrong (and people often forget a step). Also a good approach as tunepunk discovered is just to modify the quadissue performance test and measure the difference when you add something to the main sprite.

We've always been confident enough in the strengths of Construct to allow discussion of other tools. Tom even blogged about it, right back in the early days when Construct 2 was pretty limited compared to now, and we still had the same view: https://www.scirra.com/blog/62/removing-mentionsdiscussion-on-competitors

I think in the past we've drawn a line if someone says something literally along the lines of "nobody should buy C2/C3, everybody should go buy X instead!" which I generally see as just trolling, but other than that we generally don't mind. Obviously we are going to defend the strengths of Construct, but we're not going to pretend we're the only option.

Hmm, the runtime strings aren't currently covered by translations. I don't think it uses too many, but I'm not sure how far we should go... e.g. should console.log()s be translated too?

Clickteam MultiMedia Fusion 2.5, it may look like it's still living in the 1990's but it works well (especially the runtime, it's native and runs fast!

FWIW I saw a Bunnymark benchmark recently that Construct 2 in Chrome outperformed Fusion 2.5's native runtime. Native doesn't mean fast, and HTML5 doesn't mean slow. The C3 runtime will be even faster too.

The startup is a tricky technical problem, because our language library isn't loaded when that's showing, so we need a different system. The strings are there but they're not used yet.

Thanks for catching that dialog, I've made sure it's translatable for the next build.

The only way we can reliably deal with issues is if you file a bug following all the guidelines, including steps to reproduce. We need all that information to be able to investigate.
