  • Some tips about double quotes: you don't need double quotes around strings in the property grid or event variables. If you type "" in those places, it does not mean an empty string, it means a string with two characters, each a double quote. Leave it literally blank to have an empty string.

"" only means an empty string in the parameters dialog.

  • I guess you want a feature like Z ordering from Classic - I'll see if I can get something in for the next build.

  • awesome8x, that's one way of doing it, but the other way saves you having to create and position those 'detector' objects.

  • Updated the SDK in the OP once more: now there are templates for a behavior and plugin. This should be a useful starting point for anyone looking to write a behavior or plugin.

  • A simple way:

    + Player collides with enemy

    + Player.Y < Enemy.Y (i.e. player is above enemy)

-> Player has jumped on enemy's head, kill enemy...

    + Player collides with enemy

    + Player.Y >= Enemy.Y (i.e. player is not above enemy)

-> Player has run in to enemy, take damage...

  • Seconding a call for porting it to this site. I think a lot of users would find this really useful, so it deserves to be on the site where a lot of people will find it!

  • In future we hope to have a feature that lets you set a layout as a loading screen, so you can have whatever you like while it loads. It's some way off though.

  • We can download the free version and later buy the license to just enter in, aye?

Yup, you get sent a license file and you can put that either in the install directory, My Documents, or use the 'enter license' button in the about screen. Then, the free edition automatically upgrades to licensed - there isn't a different download.

Fimbul: we suggested subscriptions earlier this year. We suggested having a small yearly fee and then you get Construct 3, Construct 4 etc. included with that. However, it was really unpopular and put off a large number of people. So we've gone for the traditional model of buy a major version then have the option of buying again when a new major version comes out.

  • Yup, on the todo list, but not sure when it will be done, sorry!

  • It's on the todo list but I can't give any guarantees I'm afraid, it's a very long list and lots of other users are vying for their favourite parts to be implemented too!

  • I'll add this for the next build.

  • awesome8x, we'd appreciate it if you don't bump bug reports - this forum is a list of known issues that we look at regularly but don't comment until we've had time to investigate. (How to post bug reports: "- if we're busy it may take a couple of days to get round to the report. We're on it though!")

  • The 'create object' action sets the picked objects to just the created object.

Sub-events inherit the parent event's picked objects, so the subevent inherits a single Sprite (the last created one).

For-each only iterates the currently picked objects, so it runs once for that last created sprite. (In this case you don't need a for-each, it has no effect - actions naturally run "for each" picked object. You only need a for-each when this built-in behavior does not do what you want.)

To fix it, make a second 'start of layout' event that just has 'wait 5 seconds' then 'destroy Sprite'. That event has a blank slate for picked objects, so all sprites are destroyed.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Doesn't anyone find it odd that 1) GM is generally considered a scripting tool, in order to do anything useful, and 2) if you can code, why would you buy an expensive tool to code in when you can just code in javascript with many excellent free tools and libraries available?

Not sure who's supposed to be going for that.

Obviously C2 is a non-coding solution. Not only does that make it really useful for non-programmers making HTML5 stuff, but it also makes it very different to GM, so I don't think there's any need for anyone to panic.
