  • It's due to this fix in r80:

ebStorage: expressions that return stored values now type-checked as returning strings. WebStorage always returned values as strings, but previously the WebStorage expressions could be used where a number was needed.

You used a WebStorage value as a number somewhere, and it's actually a string, and since r80 the editor recognises as a string which prevents your project opening. I fixed it by wrapping the WebStorage values in int() in the XML files. Recovered project

  • Oops, should be fixed in the next build. A tweak to improve mobile performance accidentally made IE9 go above v-sync rate! Should go back to 60fps next build.

Note you're using tick-based movements, if you did it all framerate independent it wouldn't go in to fast-motion even at 300fps.

  • zenprophet I'm afraid I'm not sure what the problem could be - it may be your computer's configuration, or there may be some way to work around it in C2, but it's hard to tell. Perhaps as a last resort you could try setting the Preview Mode in Project Properties to 'File'. This skips the server entirely and just loads a file on disk, but modern browsers have such strict security limitations on files on disk often they just won't run. For that reason we have the feature deprecated since we hope to remove it, but it might give you at least something to work with for the time being.

  • Animmaniac is right about the technical difficulties, right now without spending too much time on cosmetics we basically have to stick to one icon set and one of the currently selectable themes (of which Windows 7 is the only one I think looks remotely good, but the others are provided since our UI library makes it easy to choose between that selection).

Geo - I thought the multicolor tabs was a nice touch, because if for example you want to select the "LevelWonE" tab you can just look for the yellow one, rather than having to read a bunch of grey tabs. On the other hand, perhaps it would be clearer to have just two colors, one for layouts and another for event sheets? I'm open to suggestion on UI changes, it's just generally only small things like tab colours are practical to change, without spending loads of time designing a themeing system.

  • Yes, by default auto-rotate is enabled... have you tried it?

  • Are references created somewhere in the temp directory while the project is open , that can be deleted by virus/disk cleaning facilities that then could cause either failure or corruption of the file upon attempted saving?

Yes. Construct 2, like a lot of software, keeps some files in Temp and cleans them up when you close Construct 2. You must not clean up Temp while Construct 2 is open otherwise it might wipe the files C2 is currently using. Even worse if you open a .capx file the entire project is extracted to Temp, so if you clean up Temp with a .capx open, you'll wipe your entire project off the disk!

I think wiping Temp with any apps open could break a lot of software and not specifically C2. I'll look in to getting C2 to lock those files so other software can't delete it while it's open.

  • I have no idea how this could possibly happen. The sequence of events when saving your project goes like this:

    1. Save everything to file.xml.tmp

    2. Delete file.xml

    3. Rename file.xml.tmp to file.xml

This is to ensure if Construct 2 crashed while saving the project, the project is not at all modified: it only wrote to a temp file and has not changed any actual project data.

This error means step 3 failed. Renaming a file is one of the most basic disk operations possible, so the only way that could have failed is if the delete file in step 2 also failed so the filename is still taken, but again deleting a file is one of the most basic disk operations.

My best guess is your project is saved in a folder which you don't have full permission to access. Is your project in Documents, or another folder? My only other guess is you're out of disk space. I can't think what else would cause this. Also, what version and service pack of Windows are you using?

  • Are you sure there are no other servers running on your computer that block Construct 2's server? Does changing the preview port in Preferences help? Does it work if you enable the Preview-on-LAN feature but just run locally?

  • Closing as not a bug.

  • Family behaviors are not yet supported - it's on our todo list.

  • PhoneGap gives you an option to limit rotation on export, and the appMobi plugin can disable auto-rotate and force an orientation by events. If you're running in the Safari browser by itself, there's no way to force an orientation.

  • A simple game should not use much CPU. Usually this means it's doing software rendering instead of using the graphics card. Check chrome://gpu, what does it say about Canvas and WebGL? You might improve it by updating your graphics card driver.

  • See 'Sprite effects.capx' in the Examples directory.

  • For technical reasons we can only support one version of Construct 2 for the Arcade, so we only support the latest version.

It doesn't say that you shouldn't download r83 - it just says beware, because it's a beta release and may have some problems.
