  • You can detect 'Is updating' and 'On update ready' with the browser object. If an update is ready, you can also use the Browser object to refresh the page, which will "install" (use) the update. In Chrome you can also watch the browser console for status messages about the app cache.

  • We don't have a Kindle Fire to test on, but if someone's got one and they could run this:

It's our favourite performance test to check out new devices. It will report a score after about a minute.

  • Audio engines in most browsers and platforms are simply not sophisticated enough to even provide a pan option. It's only supported where the Web Audio API is supported, which is currently only Chrome on desktop and iOS 6. It's apparently coming eventually to Firefox, but it doesn't look like it will be supported on IE (including Windows 8), directCanvas or CocoonJS for a while. We've been holding off adding more advanced audio features since the support is so patchy. People tend to assume everything works everywhere then become disappointed or think it's broken if it doesn't work on a certain platform.

  • Thanks for confirming, glad everything's sorted now! :)

  • Not a bug: you only have a .m4a file, which only IE and Safari will try to play. You need a .ogg for all other browsers. If you import .wav files Construct 2 should encode the .ogg for you, and the .m4a if you're on Windows 7+.

  • Well, hopefully that won't be an issue with us - we plan to keep distributing via our site. We don't know for sure how Steam's store works, but we will also try to ensure users who have already purchased a license can also use it on Steam as well, should we get accepted.

  • Just issued r108.2. Can you confirm the issue is resolved?

  • Oops, this is a bug in the Touch object when running in Windows 8. Since this is a bad bug to have in a stable release I will shortly release a r108.2 stable update that should resolve this.

Have you thought about helping test beta releases? It turns out this bug has existed since r106 (about two weeks ago), but nobody tested it and reported the issue. It's quite difficult to deal with issues after a stable release has just gone out, so extra testing in beta releases is useful.

  • krish - your .capx uses a third party plugin 'debug panel'. Please see how to report bugs, we can't accept files using third party plugins.

  • Power of 2 sizes can almost be forgotten... they are only relevant with tiled images (so not Sprite images), and in the near future mobile devices will also support non-power-of-two textures, meaning power-of-two is finally irrelevant and makes no difference at all.

In the mean time, there's not really any performance difference, it just affects whether tiled images can tile with best quality, which currently can only be done with power-of-two images.

  • superkew, —: read these two blog entries:

    Image compression in Construct 2

    Spritesheets in Construct 2

Construct 2 already does some pretty sophisticated PNG recompression on export. I cannot imagine that a web service like tinypng.org would be able to improve on this significantly at all. Are you sure you have PNG recompression enabled when exporting?

Construct 2 already spritesheets on export in a way that maximises the tradeoffs between file size, memory use, and download time. I'm not sure the problem is with C2; perhaps you could ask ludei if they can do anything to improve the load time, such as alternative compression settings.

  • Games typically run at 60 FPS, and suppose your object is moving at 10,000 pixels per second by the time it hits the wall (since in your example it accelerates by a factor of 50% every tick, since you've disabled the condition on the first event). This means every frame it is jumping about 166 pixels. This is enough to step right over the 64x64 barriers.

You simply have to avoid moving objects at extreme speeds like this, because the engine can't collision test them accurately enough.

  • Pisiukas - have you tried reading troubleshooting Construct 2's preview server?

  • bjadams - the Windows 8 export is for the "metro" style apps (it's not actually called metro any more, but it means the tile-style apps that run from the new touch-enabled start menu). The only way to run on the desktop at the moment is via Awesomium or in the browser, but I would strongly recommend you publish a Windows 8 App instead since you get in the Windows Store that way.
