  • Closing as not a bug. I've updated the relevant manual entry to clarify this.

  • It's fairly common that even the latest graphics card drivers can crash Construct 2 a lot. As far as I can tell from the forums, Construct 2 is far more stable than that for the majority of users. So it does suggest a problem with your computer, drivers, OS or something like that, rather than a Construct 2 problem.

  • Are you sure your mouse or touchpad is working properly? As far as I know, this is working for everyone else.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Construct 2 doesn't actually encode or convert the files itself, we call some third party tools to do that. So if it hangs unfortunately it's an encoder problem, and we don't directly control or maintain them so we can't fix problems with them.

It might be that the file is too short - some formats need padding with extra silence to meet a minimum length in order to encode correctly. Does that help? A 9kb mono PCM WAV at 44.1KHz would only be about 100ms long, or 50ms if stereo.

  • I tested AJAX on CocoonJS loading local files, and that seemed to work too. So hopefully everything will be good.

  • Are you sure you're using the right Steam account? All authentication is handled through Steam, so I'm afraid there's not much I can think of that we could do about it - you might want to contact Valve about it.

  • Can you share the .capx which seems to incorrectly tell you about the free limits?

It will allow you to keep using the project if you go back under the limits. So I think you must've done something like somehow added a fifth layer, or added more than two effects, or exceeded some other limit.

  • Note this thread is out of date; we implemented preloading in canvas 2D via a hack, so even canvas 2D browsers like Safari should preload images layout-by-layout without loading anything during the game. So I am doubtful image loading is still causing any issues you're having.

Splitting up animations will have no effect whatsoever; if a sprite object is on a layout, the preloader will load every animation frame for it. As I said earlier in the thread I still strongly recommend you don't use such long animations, since it can be extremely wasteful for devices with limited RAM, like mobiles. We get a lot of support requests from people with "broken" games, when all they've done is given the device more images than it can fit in memory.

  • Generally canvas2D browsers do OK with memory management still. They're smart enough to implement least-recently-used or some other simple management. The main problem so far has been with CocoonJS which doesn't implement any kind of management at all - but this should be fixed with their coming WebGL support.

Also, in case I wasn't clear enough earlier in the thread: if at all possible, we will definitely support a Nintendo/Wii U exporter.

  • Most Construct 2 crashes are caused by buggy graphics drivers. Have you tried updating your graphics card driver?

  • Well, I looked further in to the AJAX object on CocoonJS. I eventually managed to isolate the bug in CocoonJS and work around it. So hopefully the AJAX object will be working on CocoonJS in the next build!

  • Can't reproduce, works fine for me and I assume hundreds of other users since we haven't heard about this apart from here. I would guess that the extremely tight security settings on most school computers is intefering in some way. Where are you saving the project to and are you sure you have permission to access it?

Edit: is it the same if you save as both a single file (.capx) and project folder? Can you confirm the correct image files are there in the project folder (under Animations for Sprites or Textures for everything else)? If you rename the .capx to .zip and open it, are all the correct image files there as well? Do the examples in the Start dialog (file -> new) open?

  • Nobody else is reporting this error, and the recycle bin corruption message is very strange. I'm afraid I think a more likely diagnosis is your hard drive or system is failing in some way. Closing unless we hear about this issue from other users.
