Concerns from a "Serious" developer

    Windows version is only relevant for the nwjs export since they're dropping support for xp and vista as I recall. Also I'm fairly certain only one core is utilized by Construct's runtime, with maybe the exception of webworkers used for pathfinding and perhaps some other things.

    Yeah, nwjs 15 was the last I got to run on xp if I remember right.

    Also, I do remember bug reports being a major hassle. Spend hours trying to isolate an issue from a larger project and risk getting met with a dismissive response. That's disheartening so I rarely bother with them.

    I would say my only complaint is that you can't connect directly to another player without the signalling server. (Last I tried, unless it's been updated)

    The fact it didnt work on apple products was the biggest issue for me.

    Heck .. I even tried reverse engineering a bit of the plugin for apple and edge and spent several days on end to get it to work as it was intended, no luck there.

    Getting it to work in apps in the app store was one of the biggest necessities, which it couldn't deliver.

    This was a big let down for me and for the people requesting it or inquiring me to its potential.

    (not to mention the lack of support from scirra team for a viable solution )

    I helped dosens and dosens of devs with multiplayer issues, and only a handfull succeeded in making things that actually worked decently.

    The multiplayer object was everything but easy in regards to implementation compared to other plugins.

    imo the multiplayer object is perfect, even the signalling servers work great; but in the end, a lot of c2 devs were not able to work with it due to the level of insight required.

    (Again, I do think it's a pretty unique thing that you actually can talk directly to the founder, but I'm starting to see the appeal in disappearing behind a corporate team page...)

    I understand your point, but please stay. It's one of the reasons why I like Scirra so much. The team members are very active in the community and I think it poses as an example for other companies. I know reading through topics like this is quite discouraging, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciate your work and your involvement in this community.

    Well guys, I tried and the fact that Ashley and Tom won't answer a straightforward question about a way to keep C2 users happy by actually providing an engine we want with the exporters and features we need and just keeps giving us the old song and dance of how it will be better some time in the future tells me it is time to move on to another engine.

    I wish you all the best and for those of you that like C3 I hope it is everything you think it will be.

    Such is life and there are more engines in the sea as they say!

    I have Fusion and I will be looking at Unity again if it has a decent visual editor.

    They have heard the woes coming from commercial devs and they have responded.

    I have actually read every single post now which took me a while

    So before they close this thread I want to make a comment.

    I agree with the OP and totally share NotionGames concerns. I was happily using C2 for making my games and everything went so well. So I kept working and working for months. Then when it was time to publish I realized that the exporting of the game was the hardest part. First mobile and all the 3rd party wrappers and then desktop and steam integration.

    I had to do tons of workarounds. Testing almost every available NWjs version to find one that worked on most systems at least and luckily got a lot of help from who helped me out a ton and even developed a fantastic steam plugin that works great. And when I finally had my game up and running on Steam I got the opportunity to publish on xbox one. Microsoft was very helpful and helped me set it all up and sent dev kits and everything. But after a lot of hard work they came to the conclusion that is was not possible to release a C2 game on xbox one.

    This was pretty hard to hear as I've always thought that it was possible and the games main target was xbox one. So finally had to give up on it and I was pretty heart broken at that point

    However, now it actually seems like it will be possible to publish my game on xbox one and Microsoft have contacted me again and informed me that they are working on it. So hopefully this will work out and C2 actually will have a working console export as advertised. So Ashley has actually listened and is doing something about it which is really great. And will include these changes regarding xbox one to C2 and not only C3 which is fantastic to hear.

    So in the end. Thanks to C2 I was able to step into the world of game development and for that I'm super thankful. The event system is super easy to use and even if I at this point can work pretty fast in unity as well it will never be near as fluid and fast as c2 development is.

    I have hopes for C3 even though I really don't like to work in the browser. I just don't trust the browser and all the errors that it is currently throwing at the beta testers. But hopefully it will improve a lot. So if they manage to make C3 stable and make the exporting part of the development a less of a hassle with tons of workarounds then I'll happily pay for my business license in C3 and stick to it for my 2d projects.

    However, if the exporting problems remains then I'll sadly have to switch engine as well.

    But for now I don't jump into any conclusions and will wait and see what C3 brings to the table.

    Yes, and for the most part, I agree with you and a few others in this thread. I know how it feels to invest so much time and money into a product that you don't want "cut your losses" and run to another product...just for that small glimmer of hope that things will change. Sometimes it's hard to make that decision because you're uncertain if the choice you make will be the right one. I commend you for your thoughtful and rational post expressing these concerns that many others are feeling as well. I have been doing dev work in other engines for a long time. C2 started out as a toy for me and I eventually decided to push it to its limits to see what it could do for more serious projects. I totally get where you're coming from. But I also know that I can't be reliant on just one product. Personally, I want to give Scirra a chance to prove they're right in the long-run. Until then, I'll just have to wait and see. (and be a suck up! Lol!)

    These are just the bugs in C3 the first week with no features and only 40 events to work with and not counting the 127 bugs Ashley closed.

    So good luck with that!

    Obviously there will be bugs on the first days of release. The whole point of a beta is for bugs like this to surface and be dealt with.
