  • What browser does the Wii have? I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't run HTML5 yet.

  • I've read FF4 uses DirectX 9 on XP, and Chrome is hardware-accelerated with OpenGL on XP, so it is perfectly possible to write hardware-accelerated apps for XP (just think of all the 3D games that have been released for it anyway )

  • the closed-source exporters proposal with donations could work

We have already thought about options like this in detail. Writing an exporter is a tiny fraction of the amount of work that goes in to the editor, so we'd be doing a monumental amount of work on the editor, only to sell exporters which are highly vulnerable to duplication by other open source projects or even third party commercial developers, so I really doubt that'd work at all in the long term.

We plan for the exporters to be open-source though - this should make it very easy for open-source devs to improve the runtime, or write an exporter for a platform of their choice (e.g. Linux), without impacting us. So parts of C2 will still be open source!

  • If it's overheating badly it might take several days to fully cool down if it's not in a ventilated space. So it might keep failing every day until you give up and put it in a box... a few months later it's cooled right back down again and will work - make sure you keep it cool though!

  • What specific problems are you having making your pacman game in Construct? Perhaps you could post your .cap and the particular problem you're having.

Some problems do lend themselves better to coding, especially certain algorithms. If you prefer to implement your game in GML, then nobody's stopping you.

  • I think if you're an XP user, it's much easier to switch to a free alternative browser like Chrome than to upgrade your entire OS. So I guess it is aimed at encouraging OS upgrades, but it looks like it might backfire for a lot of people. Everything that makes IE9 cool is available in alternative browsers which also work on XP.

  • Yeah, really weird that they dropped support for XP when all their competitors still fully support it! Makes it seem like everyone else is doing a better job of supporting Microsoft OSs than they are...

Hardware accelerated canvas in the latest official Internet Explorer at last! This means fast HTML5 games in IE. Hopefully over the next few months it will replace most of the old IE installations. Will be interesting to see how its share increases.

  • Try Construct 3

  • I see. But aren't the least-known alternatives most likely to be incomplete or unsupported?

  • So you have to point the texture filenamess in the javascript source to another URL? Perhaps we could build in a future that does this for you.
