This game follows its teenage protagonist, Phil Andersen, after he is chosen by a mysterious eldritch council to be sent to the realm of Abaddon, unbeknownst to him, as a catalyst meant to slowly kill a malevolent force. While there, he runs into an ancient elder of Limbo, who assigns him tasks as part of a deal to send him back to the Overworld.

"Renascence" is a Construct 3 project which I started working on back in 2022 as a 14 year old. It is a 2.5D hack-n-slash action RPG with an MS-DOS-esque aesthetic.

I noticed that the Construct Arcade version of the game hadn't been updated since 2023, so I've compiled a version specifically for this platform. It removes content (some music and easter eggs) in favor of reducing the file size to 100 megabytes. It also censors some of the game's content (swearing has been removed, crude jokes have been gotten rid of) which would likely be unsuitable for the arcade. I will no longer be updating this game, but as it stands Episode 1 is completely finished and playable.

* If you face performance issues, try running the executable version of the game from the Itch.io page. In general, the game runs much smoother in Chromium based browsers than it does Gecko ones.

Instructions

Controls:

T - Interact with objects and NPCs

WASD - Basic Movement (up, down, left, right)

Q or Left Click - Melee Attack

C - Slide

F - Parry

E - Use Offhand Item

Mouse - Aim Ranged Weapon or Fireball

Left Click - Shoot Ranged Weapon

Right Click - Shoot/Charge Fireball

I - Quick Armory

Escape - Pause Menu

Scroll Wheel - Zoom in/out

  • Everything looked really good until I went into the first level. Upon entering, the display looked very glitchy. It's quite hard to explain, but I couldn't even make out where I was until I explored a bit. Pretty sure this wasn't intentional. But I should say, minus the low-quality res on start, this looks AWESOME! So good job on that!
