  • I made this game over the weekend for Ludum Dare 39. It was my 6th LD in a row but my first one I did under the compo rules. You play as a taxi driver in the post apocalyptic U.S. in the distant future of 2019. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

    Direct to the game

Stop near a person to pick them up… then take them to their destination designated by the green arrow and you get money and a chance to shop.

Arrow keys or WASD to move

    Space Bar to Shoot

If you drift too fast the screen goes white and you need to reset the game… sorry ‘bout that.

  • Thanks Ashley for the suggestion on what we can do to help with this issue. I opened a github issue to track this here https://github.com/Scirra/Construct-3-bugs/issues/552 but my first attempt to record performance failed. I think the process of recording caused the performance to drop to nothing and my screen sat loading sprites and recording for 15 mins.

I will continue to add to that github issue if I can get some more information and would encourage other's experiencing this issue to add their comments to the issue.

  • Working more the past few hours it has been painful trying to add new layouts and the application is spending a lot of time rendering images and it frequently locks up while trying to load these images. My game is under 8mb still and I am spending half my work time staring at the screen waiting for it to load and hoping it's not actually frozen.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I also noticed sometime in the past week a significant slow down in my loading/saving/previewing and r40 seems to make it better its still not near as quick as it was two weeks ago. My project has only went from ~6mb to ~8mb now in the past two weeks but it went from near instant loading, saving, previewing to ~20-30 seconds for loading/saving and ~10-20 seconds for previewing. It's not terrible but it is a very noticeable difference.

  • You can use the System -> Save & Load features to save and load the states of the game. I usually control stuff like that via global variables so you have to replace events that 'Reset global variables' to resetting just the ones you need. Might be an easier/better way but this is how I do it.

  • I have purchased it and have been using it frequently. I almost wish I would have stuck with C2 because I have run into issues and experienced crashes in C3 but I got more than my money's worth from C2 over the years and ultimately the time lost to issues/crashes is minimal compared to helping C3 get better.

I don't think there is a need to upgrade from C2 to C3 at this point but I am hopeful that will change within the next year and I only use a small subset of what the program is capable of.

  • I believe you can click your avatar icon in the top right and click view details and it shows you the limits. It did before but I purchased a license so it just says personal edition now for me.

  • paala I have run into that before and I log out and log back in and it's fixed.

  • It seems to me a lack of respect for all the people who have presented their game on time.

The good thing about Jams is to learn and see the works of others, always with the same rules for all, if now Tom extends the term, I understand, the more games the better, but it is not fair for people who have fulfilled, Who have created their game in consequence over time, perhaps some games that I have seen would have corrected many things to know that they had more time than allowed.

I am glad for those who can come to the end, but it does not seem fair to me.

And nobody prevents anyone from buying the license and teaching their game to the world, but this is a contest, it has nothing to do.

People didn't ask for an extension. We just wanted the time we were told we would have. The contest was set to end at 11:59pm EST and Construct 3 License ended hours before that.

Also, we are prevented from buying the license right now...

  • I am glad I exported a version earlier today... guess that will be the final version. Now I cannot get my Newgrounds account verified because they won't seem to send the verification email.

  • I am unsure if this is a bug or if I am missing a step somewhere but I cannot get the z-order tab to consistently show information. I feel like half the time I am trying to use it there is no sprites listed and I cannot figure out how to make them show up. I used this feature A LOT in construct 2 and never had an issue. Anyone else know the trick to making it work or is it buggy now?

I didn't see any bug reports on this with a quick look so hopefully I am just missing a simple step.

  • Ludum Dare 38 judging was pushed back till Friday because more ratings were needed overall including on my game. I ended up throwing this game together with a few friends helping with the art and level design but I would love to show it off and maybe get some more ratings.

Check out Heckin' Ants Here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/heckin-ants

I would love to see other games made in Construct for LD38 so if you participated post your game and I will be sure to play, rate and leave some feedback!

  • The point is if you want major new features to be added, the business needs a stable income to be able to develop them.

I threw in a few major feature requests to illustrate the point. The fact I mentioned them is not necessarily a statement of our roadmap.

I appreciate the reply and understand the point but if your asking us for money because the roadmap to a better C3 requires it than it should be more clear what major features your looking to implement. I was really excited about the suggestion platform and the responses on there aren't encouraging. A few items already moved to declined with only the suggestion that it's not needed and better handled elsewhere and only 1 idea in the planned section.

I don't want to invest in C3 if the roadmap is to put all the future development into reaching more people by making the application more accessible and eventually adding 3D.

  • I have been excited for C3 since I heard about it and remained excited through all the features announcements thinking the changes are mostly kind of neat but not really things I plan on utilizing. I still plan to sub day 1 since I have loved C2 over the years and feel like you have earned my money but I am a little confused as to what the plans are post release as far as major feature changes.

I thought the idea was to generally make it the best 2D game engine but in a recently locked petition on the forums Ashley wrote this.

[quote:1gshnv34]Remember that if you're keen to see major new features like 3D, timelines, modularity or collaboration, we're very much limited by our resources, and it's difficult to make the jump to hiring new developers if we have a less stable income.

This concerns me because you have 3D which is 0 interest to me within Construct and a game changer for the engine. It also lists collaboration but your suggestion platform's 1st and 4th highest voted ideas are both listed as currently not planned and they are the basics for collaboration.

I love Construct and know you're under constant harassment over your decisions with C3 but I really want to stay a customer and your making it hard to justify. Your company's communication is giving off the impression your focusing on a successful business model rather than making a solid product that is worth the money over Construct 2.
