  • Yann was kind enough to let me try, but it doesn't reproduce over remote desktop! Argh!

    Next I'll try something involving logging. Another build should follow soon.

  • I just tried Firefox 8 on Space Blaster... seems a bit worse for me :-\ Maybe it's just me though!

  • Firefox 8 just came out. Is it any better?

  • You still need the return type flag. ef_deprecated basically means "make this invisible" - you can still open old projects using it, but you can't use it in new projects. If you open an old project still using it, C2 still needs to know its return type, so you should use both flags.

  • ann, I don't think you understand how our community works. Your 3 posts have been unnecessarily negative. Constructive criticism is welcome but just saying "it is bad" is only going to upset people.

    Consider yourself warned.

  • If you reboot your computer does it start working again? It might be something running out of memory.

  • Try Construct 3

    Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • OK, this is a total mystery still, I thought you would see that new debug dialog before the check failure happened. I have no idea how that check failure could happen, it's in code that should not even be called by that point.

    I think the best thing to do now is this:

    I need a volunteer: someone who's experiencing the problem. I'll need a new user account on your computer with admin permissions, and then enable remote desktop so I can access the machine. I'll need to install some special debugging software so I can diagnose the problem on a machine where this is happening. Obviously you need to trust me with your computer... hopefully you do! I'll do my best to clean up everything I've installed when I'm done, they'll all be official Microsoft tools for debugging.

    I think that's the only way to get to the bottom of this quickly - the way things are going now it could be days or weeks. Any volunteers? (Sorry it's come to this, I really think it's the final option.)

  • OK, here's another test build:

    http://www.scirra.com/downloads/releases/construct2-r66-2-tryfix3.exe

    I doubt this fixes it, but should give us some more info to deal with the problem. When clicking Done in the parameters dialog in Noga's original example, you should see a dialog like this:

    ---------------------------
    DEBUG
    ---------------------------
    OKing event parameter dialog:

    cursel = [0]
    itemtext = [Variable1]
    ev = 00000000024FB0A0
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

    That verifies the combo is working properly - if itemtext is blank or 'ev' is all zeroes it's gone wrong.

    Also, I added some extra checks so you might get a different message if something goes wrong.

    Let me know how this works - hopefully we can get to the bottom of this ASAP and push out a 66.2 update :-\</p>

  • OK, I updated the article with some more links and info. I'll try and keep it updated as more options become available - HTML5 is a relatively new technology so some sites are only just beginning to support it!

  • HTML5games.com might also be interested, and then there's a whole slew of standard indie gaming sites you can try to get noticed on - they're not specific to HTML5 but you can still give them a go - IndieGames.com, TIGSource, PixelProspector, etc. I might add some of these to the tutorial actually.

  • Wink, that sounds like a different bug, best make a separate thread about it - this thread is just about the variables bug.

    I'm on a Radeon, so I guess after all this is a nVidia-specific bug. How strange! I'm just preparing another test build which should hopefully give some more information.

  • Check out Summary of publishing options for Construct 2 games.

    You can submit HTML5 games to sites like Kongregate, but I checked with them and they aren't quite ready to accept them yet. Hopefully they'll be taking them in the near future.

  • I think iOS might limit you to only playing audio when the user performs some action.

    So you might only be able to play audio in an 'on object touched' / 'on touch start' event. Try playing some audio in one of those events... it's not using the browser to play audio (it's PhoneGap's Media API) but I guess maybe the same limitation applies.

  • OK, thanks everyone, I guess I was wrong and somehow the graphics card affects this! Crazy!

    Now I know this I'll go over the code again and see if I can find the problem... it's a crazy problem, the event sheet view is software rendered! I didn't think it used the graphics card at all :P

  • I think Chrome pauses, and Firefox starts running one tick every second (1 fps) to give the app a chance to stay up to date. For games it's not very useful though - in the latest releases of C2, if it spots it's going at 1 FPS it sets dt to 0, effectively pausing the game (so long as your game is framerate independent).
