  • In most countries, copyright is automatic. So you do not need to do anything. People are automatically not allowed to use other people's work even if they don't do anything at all to protect it.

However the usual thing to do is include a line like this:

"Copyright 2012 Joe Bloggs. All rights reserved."

I'm not a lawyer, but I think that's legally better than having nothing in some countries (so nobody could mistake it for creative commons or something).

  • That line is the correct way to make the canvas redraw. The whole canvas will be repainted the next tick if you set redraw to true like that.

Perhaps it doesn't work because the browser takes longer than one tick to load images. Most browsers work asynchronously these days so changing an image is actually just a request to begin loading the new image, which is finished possibly some time later. To really fix it, make sure the image's loaded event also sets the redraw flag.

  • Thanks for the update, closing.

  • delgado, steveprz - just showing us an error message is not enough information to do anything about the problem I'm afraid. We need full steps to reproduce the problem from scratch if possible. Please see how to report bugs.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Just to address some of the concerns in this thread:

    • I know the US requirement is annoying, but it's just the way it is. Often US employees for legal reasons or others are tasked to do business only with others in the US. It may also be possible that they can help you out getting started with Windows Phone development, but on the condition that you're in the US. I agree they're missing out big time: US visitors are a minority of our overall traffic, so presumably also a minority of overall C2 developers. However, it's not our battle to fight, so for the time being I'm afraid this opportunity depends on where you live. On the other hand if you are a US citizen it may be an interesting opportunity for you.
    • I know IE doesn't support WebGL, but currently we have disabled WebGL on all mobile devices in the C2 engine because our testing has shown it's either slower on mobile or causes bugs and crashes. It's still a work-in-progress on mobile really. So you're not losing any performance - no other mobiles are using WebGL.

IE for mobile is also the only mobile browser I'm aware of with a GPU accelerated canvas 2D natively in the browser. So you may get pretty good performance anyway.

  • Hmm, having thought on this some more I think I'm persuaded by the "keep it simple" argument.

Initially I'll release it as a logic-only "last event did not run". We'll see how things pan out there.

  • Thanks for the input sethladd, I forgot Dart compiles to Javascript! However:

Are the performance benefits negated by the "compiling to javascript" part?

This is a very important point actually - suppose we did rewrite our entire engine in Dart *and* figured out how to interop Dart with our Javascript SDK. If that meant lost performance on other browsers and/or significantly increased code size downloads, that's another reason not to adopt it.

I'm all in favour of a replacement language for Javascript, BTW. Dart is a great idea, but the practicality is it's unlikely to be worthwhile for a real engine like ours for the forseeable future.

If it had mature and widespread support on mobile that'd be more significant, since performance is more of a problem on mobile. But still, it's a huge amount of work for a slither of performance improvement, and V8 is definitely fast enough for a lot of what we do.

  • I think it's just the OpenGL rendered layout that would cause this. I've never seen it on my Windows 7 PC which sometimes hibernates, it may be a graphics card driver issue though, are your drivers up to date?

  • I'm not sure what your point is. Isn't 63 FPS better than 60 FPS?

  • Ulisses, I don't think it has ever been fixed in Chrome 18 yet, it should be fixed in Chrome 19.

  • No, but I'm not clear why it needs to?

  • Is this a question? Why have you posted this in 'How do I'?

  • Sharing your .capx might help.

  • Try publishing via appMobi and using the appMobi object's orientation expressions.

  • Construct 2 should be able to make any kind of 2D game. So it should be possible to make that kind of game you linked to.
