  • Last I tried it, it was very slow.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Event sheets are not matched one-to-one with layouts - you can include one event sheet in multiple other event sheets, for example. So there's no obvious way in the event system to make a global variable but unique to a particular layout. I think the best way is just to use globals, or static local variables in groups, or similar.

  • Argh. They're wrong, we wrap their IAP system with the CocoonJS object. I've already asked them to improve their documentation for Construct 2 users, but at some point I'll try and figure out what's going on with their system.

  • There aren't 3 audio formats after export - there are only 2 (.m4a and .ogg). You only need those two to cover all browsers and platforms.

If you export to a platform where the browser engine is known in advance, Construct 2 only exports the right set of audio files, so you'll only get 1 set of audio files automatically. The settings are as follows:

Exporting to Chrome Web Store or node-webkit:

Known to use Chromium, only .ogg exported

Exporting to Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8:

Known to use IE, only .m4a exported

.wav files are never exported. They're there in case in future Construct 2 supports export-time re-encoding of your audio from the original sources.

  • boolean - no, the offline cache is separate to WebStorage and doesn't contribute to the WebStorage quota.

  • Construct 2 should run without admin permission just fine. However the most common cause of crashes is the graphics card drivers being old and buggy. Many classroom computers don't see much software maintenance so are especially likely to have old out of date drivers. Updating to the latest driver version should hopefully fix it.

  • Are you sure you used the latest version of Visual Studio and Windows 8, like the report says?

Also the most common cause of issues is being wasteful with memory. They'll test your device on mobile which is more likely to have a limited amount of memory. Make sure you're not using loads of really big images and so on.

  • It sounds like using 'unbounded scrolling' is the right solution. If it's not enabled (and scrolling is bounded), you will probably get unwanted behavior, since the layout may be smaller than the window but scrolling is disabled so the view cannot be moved.

It should be simple to avoid horizontal scrolling: just use the 'Scroll to Y' action. Or, if you're using the 'Scroll To' behavior, only change the object's Y co-ordinate.

  • You just need to copy the files to another computer, and they should run right away. You might want to encourage people to install dxwebsetup.exe before playing, though - it's not necessary, but if it's not already installed, you might not get WebGL support.

  • Assuming the browser internally uses UTF-8, you should be able to store 5 million characters of data, which includes characters from both keys and values. There is no key number limit.

  • Are you using a loader layout? If not 'On loaded' won't fire. Just use 'On start of layout'. Also in the events you posted I don't see anywhere that the "Premium" function is called.

If it still doesn't work, I'd ask Ludei what's wrong.

  • Construct 2 should automatically rename objects in expressions. If it does not, post a bug report.

  • I think this is a bug in our UI library so there's nothing obvious for us to do about it apart from report it to the vendor. It's a shame you've run in to an issue so quickly, but the rest of the software should be very robust. We have weekly updates so we can move quickly to improve C2.

  • You can pick the child. The way containers work, if one object in the container is picked, then all other objects in the container are picked. So "Spawn base" followed by "Pin turret to base" should work fine.

  • Physics will use dt if you use the 'Set stepping mode' action and choose 'framerate independent' (which means uses dt). By common request it is not the default because it adds random variation to games which can make them act differently each time from the same set up.

You don't need to use dt on impulses. I don't think you need to use dt on forces either, but I'm not sure...
