The Official Introduce Yourself Thread

  • Hey guys! My name is Robin, and I'm 19 years old. I just started with game making roughly a year ago, so I'm still some kind of a noob to everything. But I'm eager to learn more and I like it.

I don't really have a history with game making, it just happened.

Last year I started unexpectingly with RPG Maker. I found it on a school PC and because of the name I opened it. I just started playing around a bit and before I knew I was making a very sketchy amateur game.

My friends joined in too, it was pretty cool. We kept showing stuff and sharing ideas.

A few months ago I bumbed into a dutch RPG Maker forum and I learned a lot over there. This summer, about a month or two ago, a Game Contest was held. I decided not to use RPG Maker but something else, and I found out about Scirra.

I took a few tutorials, played around a bit and ended up with a platform survival shooter. It's pretty basic, but to be honest I hadn't put too much effort in it.

Anyway, now the contest is over I wanted to make more with scirra and here I am.

  • Greetings game fans.

I am Stufa. Long have I been fascinated in video games. I was born pretty much when the indusrty kicked off. 1978, the VCS yay.

What I've always loved about video games is YOU control what's on the screen.

And since being knee hight of a grasshopper. I've wanted to create a game myself.

Only now do I seem to get the chance.

  • Greetings Stufa, I hope you finally get to bring that dream to life :)

  • Hey all, Dredd's in da house.

Like many here, signs of talent, but not much to show for it.

Wannabe programmer since forever. First console; Intelivision. Started coding with C64/BBC BASIC, hated M$ early, loathed COBOL even more, finally got a 486 & internet. Was more into Javascript than Java, but when Flash4 came out was hooked. Stuck at it til about Flash9 (AS3) then switched briefly to Air, which brought me back to JS/Ajax/Canvas/SVG/HTML5..

As ppl say, history repeats. Construct2 reminds me of Flash4, so thought it's good time to join. Things will accelerate.. 3D internet is close. Some may question if it's needed. Regardless, it's inevitable. And like others here, i wanna be part of it's foundation. With any luck we're right on the frontier, and with the skillz needed to make it happen.

  • Welcome Dredd, let's build the future altogether.

  • This isn't technically an "introduction," per se (I've been using Construct and Scirra.com for about a year and a half now, and posted a little on the forums a while ago), but I might as well reintroduce myself since it's been a while since I've been very active in game development. So... Hi! I'm Joey Meli! :)

  • Hey there, the name's Scott =] I haven't really done any game development for a long time (I used to use Game Maker, I was fairly good at it but that was a long time ago now) and decided I wanted to get back into it. I found Construct totally by chance and thought it looked pretty cool and decided to give it a try.

I'm mostly a musician, specifically I'm a composer. When I've been here a little longer I'll post some of my stuff up for you all to see, and if you like it and want something for your game, all you'll need to do is ask! :D

    So, uh... hi!

    So, uh... hi!

Nice to meetcha! Seems like you'll be an awesome addition to this community. :D

  • Hey, velo here.

Since I was born in '98 (yes, very young) I didn't really had the chance to play NES, SNES, Sega Genesis and others. (I did play some NES/SNES games on an emulator tough).

Although my first system was a PS1, I always felt some love for 2D. Yeah, sure, Call of Duty, blah. I find Limbo, Cortex Command and others to be my personal favorites.

As for how I found Construct, I was very bored with Game Maker. I couldn't really find anyway to make the project I had in mind. Well, I started searching game engines and here I am. <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Currently I am starting learning Construct (I have the basics, only need to learn stuff such as INIs, variables, etc) so I can start my first project, an uncommon 2D shooter with a retro style to it. I really look forward to seeing it done. <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Ah, and BTW, I am more of a coder and artist. I do understand music (can play piano and guitar) but am truly horrible at composing.

  • Hi there!

I'm Matt and I helped bring some of the music and sound effects to Construct 2. I've always had a love for gaming and years ago I entered the Make Something Unreal contest for UT2003 and worked on the mods Atlantis and Frag.Ops - although I was actually lead animator on both of those teams.

Anyway somewhere down the line I gave up animating and got back into music and here I am now. Graduated from the University of Hull with a degree in Creative Music Technology and set myself up as a freelance composer and sound designer and haven't looked back since...

Great to be part of Construct and it's awesome seeing what you guys can come up with!

    Thanks!

  • Hey hello Matt, and good job on Space Blaster and the bundle pack !

  • Well hello there, names Orlando aka PixelPalette. I been a Game Maker user for a quiet a while, and i though i give Construct 2 a shot. Purchased the standard license and i am waiting on the email.

    Anywho, see ya around the board! <img src="smileys/smiley12.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Hey I'm Rez aka Andy. Just bought the standard version of Construct 2. Worked with Construct / GM / C sharp / Python, etc. Usually stick behind the scenes. The link below is a quick test I was doing with animation and collisions, nice and simple but works great <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> :

There seems to be an issue with landing as you will probably see if you try the game, nothing serious and will either be my coding or an issue with Construct 2 and I'm not sure yet. Did all the pixel art myself. Hope you like the simple presentation! (still WIP will add simple combat and collectables in the future!)

    • Rez
  • Seems to be an issue with the player going left in that test I posted when played in Firefox. Internet Explorer seems fine!

  • Hey 00Rez that's a great little demo!

the email is sent to your Paypal email address, if you didn't get it send an email to licensehelpxbv@scirra.com with your Paypal transaction details and we can resend it to you.
