CHAMBER (working title)

  • this is wierd I've never had this problem before, I start downloading Chamber and it gets to 15% and just freezes, I can download chamber.85 from the link in this forum just nothing uploaded by Deadeye XD

  • Good work on the game so far. The engine definitely feels a lot smoother then before. Just a few crits for you:

    1) I think she slides too much before she comes to a complete stop. You need to stop quickly to avoid falling into the lava pit or running into blades so its frustrating to slide everywhere

    2) I had problems with the wall jump also. I think mostly because its counter intuitive to have to hold jump when on a wall, but press jump when i'm on the ground.

    3) Im sure this will be fixed up, but the perspective feels weird on the ground. It looks very flat and 2d. Maybe some shadowing or proper ground tiles will fix that up.

Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

I'm sorry man, I really don't know what's up with that. I could try exporting a new .exe and uploading to a new host I guess. Or maybe Sol could. Speaking of Sol, where is he?

I agree with the sliding, actually. I've just been playing with this engine for so long that I was used to it. It's an easy enough fix to tone it down a little.

And the perspective on the ground tiles is a little strange, but not uncommon in games. They'll be spiced up to give them some more depth though. Like I said, the graphics are likely to change.

As for the wall jump, it might be weird at first, but does it get easier with a little practice? I had to practice for a second to get the walljump down on your game . Everybody does walljump differently, its something that you have to get used to in every game. Sol and I just thought it would be easier to have to master timing on just two buttons rather than three.

If you're missing jumps, then when you grab the wall wait a split second until she starts her slide animation, push in the opposite direction, then let go of the wall. I still get impatient and try to jump too early every once in a while

Oh, and thanks for the feedback

  • Well with the help you gave to wall jump, now, it goes really easy...

Hey, I really liked the look you gave to angel... since I love kof...

I remembered that I tried some years ago, to do this kinda of edditing, but, i couldn't...

What plugins you use for photoshop?

Did you use any tutorial to learn this?

I whant to do this kinda of edditing on my chars... I have ripped ralph from kof 2002... but I whanted to make other stuff with it, and not just put it on my project rawed from the game...

Must say that this thing falled with the time? well...

Thanks, but she is getting changed for a totally original and new character though. I didn't use any special plugins or anything, I just hand drew over each frame by hand... I didn't use a tutorial either, I just kind of... did it.

  • well, then it's just talent...

So, I'll stay with my raw chars, or start trying, with gimp...

Cheers mate. I wish there was some easy way of doing it, or a magic button... but it just comes down to practice more than anything really. The only thing I can suggest is to make sure you have a clear idea of what you want to do before you get started. This will really help with redesigning existing content. Sometimes I will even make a drawing or rough sketch of what I want to do so I have a better picture in my head of how it's going to look.

  • Sweet animations! Could you post a non ps2,0 version? I know i'm the only one left on the forums without ps, but i'm really excited about this!

    Check your PM's

  • Thank you deadye You're the best! The game looks awsome! Really looking forward to playing the full version, or even the next version!

I can't get the wall jump to work though... haven't got a single one right and i've tried everything.

  • The wall jump works only with left-side shift. Keep it pressed, and when sliding down a wall, press arrow button of opposite direction from the wall.

  • OK opinion time.

Here is what I have come up with as far as a sprite test for the new character rework. Let me know what you guys think so I know whether to keep going or scrap it for another "method". Certain bits need to be worked on a little still because I'm not entirely happy with it, but it's complete enough you should get the idea.

Also, for the hair and the thigh band, I will be making some "particle" type objects that will flow along with the character instead of being animated by hand.

    Anyway, here she is:

  • OMG its not pixel art! WOOOOOOT!

    Very nice!

A small suggestion,I feel that her skin is a little pinkish, i think it should be a bit more tanned...so a simple hsl shift probably. Although it depends whats in the background...and also the colour settings on my laptop might be a bit out heh

  • Wow, she's a hottie :D. (Of course, what should be expect from Sol)

Agreed with Dave with the skin color. Also, I think that her neck should be little longer.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Nice

I agree with the neck and the tan, but I think the neck might just look that way because of the collar. You might try making the collar a little thinnner and see if that works too.

Also, her left hand is bugging me a little. If she's making a fist, her thumb should be behind her knuckles. But I'm nitpicking. You should know me by now

I'm also a little worried that with the gray boots, gray armbands, gray jacket etc. that it's going to blend a little too much with the background and cause readability problems. I suppose the best way to find out would be to mock up the running sprites and do a quick test to see how it looks. And I guess the sooner the color scheme is nailed down the better, that way you won't have to recolor 100 sprites
