  • Awesome stuff! It's great to hear work has already been started! Any rough estimation how long it would take C2 to be complete enough to make full games? A year or two perhaps?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Fantastic! C1 is my favorite Game Creation Platform, and C2 sounds like its going to be ground breaking!

I've always wanted to create a retail game with construct (Mainly to help my family and such), and I was wondering if purchasing C2 will allow you to sell/publish your work?

    Can't wait to see it!

  • Yeah I'm hoping most of the features from C1 will remain.

  • I wouldn't speculate too much about exactly what would get in C2 atm. I'm pretty sure they'll want to keep all the functionality that 0.X has, but it might not be exactly the same just because of that. Which given that C2 and 0.X will be incompatible, is perfectly fine.

... I was wondering if purchasing C2 will allow you to sell/publish your work?

You can already do that with 0.X, for free. Check out the sticky in the Discussion forum.

  • What about people who were planning big games in Construct but weren't too far along? Should they continue it in 0.x or what? I'm also wondering if 0.x will really get bug fixes when needed and for how long.

One more thing, how difficult do you predict porting our events to C2 would be? I'm sure no one wants their events to all feel like a waste when C2 comes out. Will most of the event sheet system use the same mechanics and actions/conditions/expressions etc?

I would imagine that would depend on community involvement from this point on.

Yes the same ACE setup is being used in C2. And I think the event sheets actually look a bit nicer, so far...

  • Awesome! really happy to know that the work has started

    Keep it up!

I'm wondering about that too, I could probably just work on art assets for a year or two.

  • Great! Been waiting for this only thing I hope is that the development goes in a steady way with small but frequent updates.

(BTW teh new captcha thing hates me or at least school pcs)

    EDIT

Hmmh lets just hope that it will have most of the basic features in early stages already. 3d stuff can kiss my ass it's not that uber useful anyways (tech demos mostly)

  • Yeah. I'm excited about this. Best wishes to C2 Ashley.

  • This sounds really cool, it now has me wondering a load of things like.

Can V1 plugins or caps be used in V2? (Although i am guessing most plugins will get updated)

Does V2 keep HLSL? or is direct x gone and it is now using GLSL etc because i quite like coding HLSL fx

What sort of coding options does it allow?

Will V2 be open source? i guess not though, hopefully we will find out soon anyway though.

  • Well, I knew Construct 2 was in development in some form due to talk on the IRC channel, and the Sourceforge page, but still...

Well, I'm looking forward to testing C2 out myself soon enough!

  • I'm excited to see Construct 2. Plain and Simple.

I think it's very good that Construct 2 been making better progress than Construct Zero.

What does Construct 2 keep from the original and what does it throw away?

  • Thanks for the many kind and understanding messages everyone

A commercial option is something we've thought about, but there will probably always be a free version of some description.

There have been a lot of questions about C2, but the easiest way to answer all the questions is: we'll start a public preview this weekend, and post lots more info, and you can see for yourself then! That should also help anyone wondering where their current projects are going to go. (Remember it's in pre-alpha stage so is some time away from being full-featured.)

  • Yeek... although it's great, I hope it won't take years to have a proper release. I think the market of "click and play" softwares really need a powerfull engine... when I think to mmf2 and his 10-15 years old core...

Paying for such a software isn't a big problem, as long as it's at least as good as construct .
