Construct 3 any news?

From the Asset Store
Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!

To put it in perspective it is better to have 1,000 customers buying a license and subscription at that price than it is to have only a 100 buy the license for more and never subscribe.

This assumption that Scirra is only going to have 100 people subscribe to C3 is silly. There are literally thousands of people who use C2 and will (probably) upgrade to C3 if it suits their workflow. The noise you hear in the forums isn't from thousands; it's a small minority of users. Sure, it looks like a mess in the forums because the minority is always the loudest. Scirra will do fine with their subscription, and if not, they already said they'd reconsider the amount. The noise just continues despite Tom and Ashley already reaffirming this stuff to everyone. Telling Scirra they'll probably fail to reach blah blah number of users based on some random guy's experience is nonsense.

You are welcome to your opinion but the math is the math and having more volume of customers is better than having less and the higher the cost the less customers you will have as any business owner will tell you.

    Have a great day!

    Hi Tom!

From what I have read of the preliminary plan I just think Scirra is pricing themselves out of business going with such a high subscription rate.

Having run online businesses that needs people to subscribe and stay tuned for new materials I can tell you that very few people will pay $99 a year for a subscription.

I suggest you would make more money having more volume of customers and more customers attracts more customers if you would set your C3 personal license at $50 and $20 a year subscription gets you all the updates and addons and what ever other bonuses you can think of as incentives.

People will get a great deal at $50 for a licensed version and will be alot more inclined to sign up for a $20 subscription for ongoing updates and addons and that is ongoing revenue for Scirra.

To put it in perspective it is better to have 1,000 customers buying a license and subscription at that price than it is to have only a 100 buy the license for more and never subscribe.

    Just my opinion!

They have confirmed that the pricing is not changing. Also it IS $50 for the first year if you already have Construct 2. $99 for future years. It's not expensive.

Cost plays a lot in whether a customer will purchase something or not. Sell it for too much, and people might think the price is too high but the quality must be good. Sell it for too little, and they'll wonder if something is wrong with it. You assume I'm not a business owner or have never sold anything. Opinions are like butts... we all have them. Some are just a bit poopier than others.

Maybe $99 a year is not expensive for you but I see many people on Scirra are young kids and people from other countries where $99 is a lot of money.

Shutting those customers and potential customers out with a high cost is not a good idea but hey you are welcome to your opinion.

This assumption that Scirra is only going to have 100 people subscribe to C3 is silly.

I think his point was that at 3x price your customer count goes down to 1/10. It won't scale in their favour.

In any case, I fear Bleenx is correct. My instant reaction on seeing the announcement was "shit... this is not gonna work out is it". One of the problems is C2 is already pretty feature-complete. Scirra needs to offer some strong incentives to pull customers in to buy C3, and 99$ subscription is a large pull in the wrong direction.

I agree and unless C3 can do 3D or something amazing not even possible with C2 I just can's see spending more for it as I am not designing for consoles and that is a limited customer base I believe.

I also worry they will just drop support for C2 to focus on C3 and that would be leaving out a whole lot of users that have committed to using C2.

I am not against a new version or Scirra making money but I have seen this happen with 001 Game maker and they had a great game engine but subscriptions and lack of update and support for older versions killed them off.

Take care of your customer base that feeds you every day I say!

They are, it's $49 for a year when you upgrade. That's the price you wanted. Then after a year you can decide if it's worth paying $99.

Many people considering C3 will not have a license to upgrade so you are focusing on a small base of customers.

Construct 2 owners are a small base of customers. Can you link me to where you are finding these fake facts?

The upgrade is for C2 owners with a personal license I do believe.

    Your tone is offensive.

    End of discussion.

Depends on what is has in the way of features and like I said I am not against them releasing another version and maybe there are more game designers that want to develop for consoles that will be interested.

I am sure I will probably try out the free version and my point was about increasing customer volume instead of focusing on a small market of console and mobile game designers and taking care of those that have supported you and not dumping us as I have seen happen with other game engines going to subscriptions.

That is my thoughts on that and my post was to Tom and is my opinion.

I know it's your opinion, and I'm not arguing it. I'm merely debating the things you said. I'm sure the basic C3 edition will be as limited as the basic C2 edition. It's my guess at this point that they'll reveal some good things next week about export options. Let's hope anyway.
