  • In fact, between the big 3, there's an unceasing chase. Sometimes IE is first, sometimes it's chrome, sometimes Firefox. The fact to the matter is that they are emulating one another and all keeping moving forward.

Safari is improving too, but does it have competition on mac ? There's a sort of monopoly. So, no hurry for them, but they are following the movement too.

Yeah, the intense competition is great. Safari 5.1 was released soon, and had some canvas performance improvements, but still doesn't reach a solid 60fps on my machine. (I was testing on Windows - I think the Mac browser is faster and better - I don't think many people use Safari on Windows anyway.) Still, I think Firefox and Chrome work on Mac, so there's still plenty of competition for Safari. Opera and Firefox have mobile browsers and Chrome make the Android browser so there's good competition in mobile browsers as well.

  • Nice job :) Great to have some good hashes in C2!

  • "Failed to create temporary directory" bug:

This is really odd. The code for the checked build creates a directory, and checks the function succeeds. Later it double-checks the directory exists, and that's where the error you see is coming from. So if you don't see any error before that, it apparently has successfully created a directory, but then straight away can't find it. Hmm...! For the next build, I've just turned off the second check. If Windows says it created the directory, I suppose it worked anyway!

    Object panel issue:

Good point - I've changed it in the next build so both columns auto-size to fit all the text they contain.

  • Good news! Chrome 13 was released today, and if you go to about:flags and enable "GPU accelerated canvas 2D", Chrome gets a nice solid 60fps on most games. Before, turning on the same option didn't seem to affect the framerate - seems they've done a lot better now.

You still have to manually enable it, but I think they'll enable by default in a release soon. Then, the big three - IE, Firefox and Chrome - all will have really good, fast, hardware accelerated canvases!

  • Thanks, should be fixed in the next build.

  • Fixed in next build!

  • Fixed in next build! Good find!

  • C2 ships with the audio tools, and this only happens if you go deleting files from the install directory. I don't think this is something we need to fix tbh.

  • I think it's the UI framework that does this - not sure we can do anything about it.
