Old thread is below for archiving's sake. This post content is now out of date - the above link is now the latest version of the SDK documentation.

    ===================

Plugins and behaviors can be written for Construct 2 in Javascript. Since there's been some plugin work already - and I myself keep forgetting how it works - I've been writing up some documentation for the SDK.

    HTML5 Javascript SDK and documentation

Also, user Kyatric has kindly compiled a HTML version of the SDK documentation viewable online.

    Last update: 28th November 2011

This is currently some very lo-fi text files, but the content is there. There are also templates to help get you started with a plugin or behavior. In future, it'll all be hosted on the site, linked up, and so on.

Let me know if you have any problems, find anything confusing, or get stuck - we're more than happy to help!

  • I like lucid's all-green theme better than the all-blue one. Right now the site is mainly green, but with bits of blue.

That's my main worry about the blue one - it's good, but it does look very corporate and serious. The blue one seems very "technical documentation for Microsoft Office", whereas green is more fun and lively.

I'm still being outvoted though :)

  • Have you tried pixel shaders in Construct Classic? Is that what you mean?

  • Heh I tried to persuade Tom to leave it green, looks like it'll end up blue then! :)

  • It does read like spam if you just post a one-line "go here and spend money". Perhaps you should describe why people should hand over their hard earnt money on this particular site, maybe something like free samples demonstrating the quality of the work?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Nice! Any idea which games he's made in Construct? Someone was looking for a list of Construct-made games recently.

Love the site, keep up the good work!

ith a great and very powerful competitor on the way which is very easy to use and doesn't come with many of these annoying limitations, MMF3 have to become even better.

Can't be certain which competitor Nifflas is referring to, but I think it shows Nifflas is aware of the competitive landscape.

  • Safari supports HTML5 just fine AFAIK. Generally if companies like Google bully a browser by not supporting it they get buried in a tide of angry customers, so it's a rare thing.

  • I think the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Browsers could all support the same audio format without this! It's just politics stopping that. Javascript is truly "write once run anywhere" - C++ is portable, but different platforms (32-bit x86, 64-bit x86, ARM) change the features slightly, which can cause crashes and bugs if you're not careful. It's perfectly possible to code taking that in to account, but it doesn't even need to cross your mind in JS. I don't think it'll take off.

  • Looks very cool, but don't you think Google have gone over the top here?

Javascript compiles to machine code so usually is 2-3x slower than C++ code - and will speed up. So unless your javascript app is using more than 33-50% of the CPU, there won't be any performance gain - it's fast enough. And Mozilla and Google are working to speed it up even more!

  • You can "store" an instance in a variable by storing its unique ID (UID) in a number variable. To get it back, you just use a 'pick by UID'.

You can also reference an object type simply by storing its name string in a text variable, but I'm not clear what you would want to do with that.

Similar techniques work in Classic. It's an interesting idea, but I'm not clear what it would allow you to do that you can't do with the above. How exactly will it work with the SOL/picking algorithms?
