  • Zollie08, what are you talking about? :S

septeven, there are methods to set/get the instance size here:

    http://www.scirra.com/manual/21/the-edit-time

Are you sure you need so much stuff to be accessed from the edittime? We are really pressed for time and I can't imagine why a plugin would need to change things like the WebGL setting? Also, since the edittime side of plugins is a bit limited right now, have you considered just doing everything on startup at runtime in your plugin? Changing any part of the edittime in a plugin is actually really complicated because it has to fully support the undo system, which can be pretty complicated if your plugin wants to make batch changes. I think I need to better understand what you're trying to do to justify it. Are you sure there are no good workarounds?

  • terblus - see the SpriteFont plugin by Mipey. Rather than text rendered to an image, SpriteFonts are dynamic text which is based off having an image with each letter of the font rendered to an image (e.g. "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuv...". Then it builds up text by drawing individual letters from the image. That might be a good substitute for the Text object while keeping identical rendering.

  • This comes up a lot, but you can hold an object in a variable by storing its UID, and use the 'Pick by UID' condition to pick it again later.

  • Sorry dcrew, it doesn't count if you delete or rename files manually in Windows Explorer while Construct 2 is using them! Of course that will break it. I don't expect anyone who is encountering the bug is doing that. I think it is something in the editor which causes it, not modifying files outside of C2.

  • No, don't upload it to the arcade (that's for publishing finished games), just put the .capx file in a public Dropbox folder.

  • Hi all,

A bug where opening your project gives the error "Cannot find project file for animation frame" has been reported many times now. (FYI you can usually work around it by ignoring or hitting 'retry' - the project will load and you can find the missing images and replace them - but it's still a frustrating and possibly serious bug.)

I hoped to have fixed it in the last build (r73), but it seems not - it's still been reported since then. It is incredibly difficult (sometimes impossible) to fix bugs if I can't reproduce them myself, and despite lots of reports, I'm still clueless how to set up a project and reliably make this happen. I have a feeling it might be to do with renaming objects or animations, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone provide any extra info on the cause of the bug? Better yet, can anyone reproduce it? With a reliable repro I can probably fix it immediately for the next build, and this bug has lasted for a long time now. It's especially frustrating since it appears to be the last serious bug in Construct 2 (plenty more less serious ones though!) and I really want Construct 2 to be bulletproof in terms of stability, and this is a bit of a nasty blemish on what I think is otherwise a very reliable bit of software.

So, any help much appreciated on this one!

  • Can you upload the .capx for us to look at? We may be able to recover it.

  • Well they seem to have borrowed Chrome's browser engine to run the HTML5 apps... I think if Chrome added a feature to pin websites to the task bar, which they could probably do on a whim if they wanted to, that would seem to replace them completely...!

  • To be honest the forum rules are pretty editorial. Technically discussion of those things is not allowed, but where we feel it is reasonable we do allow discussion, but reserve the right under the rules to stop the discussion at any time.

For example point #2 is something many people are very opinionated about and can cause clashing strong views. That's a fact of life, but we'd rather it not happen here on the forums, there are other better places to discuss that kind of thing. For that reason I'm also locking this thread.

  • Well, I've fixed two bugs for the next build now thanks to this thread - numbers aren't accepted to animation parameters, and the = operator works properly for strings. So hopefully it will be a little smoother in the next release :)
