  • Closing, assuming this is a graphics driver issue.

  • tap - your solution breaks accelerometer input in DC. You guys should really add DC side support for accelerometer since it looks like my hack to work around DC's lack of support is causing problems here.

  • It could be problematic if several plugins specify a jquery dependency... which one do you then export?

jQuery is used in official code in several places but it shouldn't be too much of a problem to remove it.

  • This is usually caused by third party plugins which the author updates in a non-backwards-compatible way. Are you using any third party plugins?

  • I'm considering removing jQuery form the Construct 2 engine completely. It's not strictly necessary, would simplify the code, reduce the dependencies, and jQuery stuff doesn't work in non-browser engines anyway like CocoonJS and directCanvas, so using it there is always broken.

Would this break a lot of plugins? Are any plugin developers using it in specific plugins and if so would you be able to refactor it out?

  • IE10 is hardware accelerated and has a good javascript engine so performance for most games is adequate to good. However I've heard anecdotally that IE10 on ARM devices is not so fast. I don't think IE10 is so well optimised there, but the market share of Win8 ARM devices is probably going to remain small compared to desktops for the time being.

  • Unfortunately there are no mobile browsers that support orientation lock at all yet - it's just a quirk of HTML5 right now, but it is being fixed (I think an orientation lock standard is being worked on). Workarounds are either just to use letterbox scale, so it just scales and shows black bars down the sides when you rotate, or pause the game and ask to set the orientation back if it's turned the wrong way.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Do you have access to DreamSpark? It's a service from Microsoft that allows students to get free MS software, and also makes it free to sign up a Windows Store developer account. Definitely worth a shot, and even if you can't get on it, try emailing someone from DreamSpark to explain your situation!

  • Trigonometry is used extensively internally to almost every movement behavior in Construct 2 (and Construct Classic). It's definitely useful to know.

  • Moved to 'How do I' forum.

  • 90 degrees would be up, but because in computers the Y axis has traditionally incremented downwards, C2 follows suit and that means 90 degrees is down.

There are a few different ways of doing it - we could have made 0 degrees point up - but 0 degrees points right due to the way the math works out. Using:

    x += speed * cos(a)

    y += speed * sin(a)

then 0 degrees ends up being right (because cos(0) = 1 and sin(0) = 0). If we changed this it could cause problems, especially with third party plugins that might assume the above formula works when C2 does it differently.

  • Oh right, well in that case the solution is to add a condition and not an expression!
