  • Is that your first game? Pretty neat :D

  • Have you installed a new release in the mean time? It might have been accidentally fixed :)

  • But the fact that the Space key condition doesn't fire with the Item selection is still the main problem.

When I try it, it seems to work fine. If I hit space on menu items 1 or 4 it appears to switch to a different menu. Is that what's supposed to happen? If not what is supposed to happen?

  • It's still a lot for debugging - the same function is called in the engine for all the events, so diagnosing projects with more than 5 events that way gets pretty difficult. Still, if you can't get it any less than that, I can take a look some time soon.

  • Possibly. The files are only changed when you rename, edit, delete or add objects, so it could be any of those things.

  • Oh, just got the issue, seems to be a bit random. Hopefully fixed in the next build...

  • 1) Create a project

    2) Create a sprite

    3) Save the project

    4) Now clone the sprite with "Ctrl + left mouse click" and the same time, save the project with "Ctrl + S".

I can't reproduce any issue. I hold control, start dragging, hit S (control is still down so it does Save), and it works OK. Am I missing something?

  • I've just noticed my problematic Breakout test has a missing object also :/

Which object? They all appear to have a texture. The projects are not useful, they're all the same, just an ordinary project with a missing file. I need to know what you were doing just before the problem happened!

  • There's no way to get the time of day yet - only the time since the game started. I can add something to the next build if you like.

  • Moved to Classic forum.

  • The "PlayerSPAWNER" object's texture has gone missing. Can you remember if you did anything with this object before saving? That might have caused the problem, and if so, it's a bug we really should fix!

  • Also minecraft is java if I'm not mistaken, not javascript.

Kyatric is right, Minecraft is written in Java not Javascript. Java is more comparable to C++ as a language, and almost as fast, so you can't really compare Java's performance to Javascript.

Performance is a complicated thing. Whether or not hardware acceleration is enabled depends on a number of factors, including the browser version, the OS, your actual hardware, your driver version, and so on. Hardware acceleration is never guaranteed to be enabled - Firefox 6 doesn't like my old GeForce Go 7600, so disabled hardware acceleration even with the latest drivers. However, IE9 (of course, not available on XP...) doesn't mind and still used hardware acceleration. Worse, it's often hard to tell, since FPS rates vary and browsers have a number of places hardware acceleration can be used, e.g. in rendering ordinary HTML documents, but not covering the canvas element itself!

To further complicate it, different browsers, systems and hardware have different performance characteristics - regardless of whether hardware acceleration is enabled, different systems can still get very different framerates, because they're good at different things. And by "system" I mean the entire system from your physical graphics card right the way up to the browser software version.

TL;DR - when it comes to performance don't expect anything. Maybe try some different browsers and stick to whatever works best for you.

  • Thanks for the report, fixed in next build.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Should they? It's not obvious whether this is a bug in Construct 2 or a logic problem in your events. It's very difficult and time consuming for me to check the project to verify the logic of the events is indeed sound, and therefore the problem must only be a bug in Construct 2. I'll double check some time in future, but it would save tonnes of time if you could reproduce keyboard events not working in an empty project with as few events as possible.
