  • Looking for designers, artists, web designers, composers to come together under one name and become a game development team. Would like to have people to bring game ideas with them that they would like to purpose to the team. Work on projects from the ground up use independent funding with what ever assistance we can get from kickstarter.com and any other. Team lead to which ever game is decided upon is the person who had the base line idea. The first project is volunteer (if funding is available will be paid), if the project has a profit it will be pushed out to the team and any future projects will paid projects. Current website is HolyHellgames.com and HolyHell is the name I'd like to release the games under in association with which ever names you bring to the team. Any questions please email me at chadnon85yse@gmail.com looking forward to building a team.

  • I'm going to go ahead and offer my opinion here about the name. The rest is all fine, you're looking for a team, makes sense.

HolyHell Games sounds very amateurish and I can see religious folk possibly taking issue with it. Also, saying HolyHell is the name these games are going to be released under is basically bringing to light a point that you tried to cleverly hide - you're not looking to form a team, you're looking to 'get' a team.

The team should have the right to choose the team name, what website it is published under, etc.

    Just my two cents.

  • Naughty dog sounds amateurish but its one of my favorite and has a major release series under it. As im trying to bring the team together it would be my team and any thing that's made by the team would be released HolyHell/(insertname). As for the religious aspect as I'am not they can take up what ever issues they wish. I thank you for your input

  • Also have the name Shiny Squirrel.

  • I'm up for it but not if it's called HolyHell Games. I was thinking maybe WildBit Games. I could make you a logo as well!

  • Games "WildBit Games." Cool name<img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

chadnon If you want an team you should, tell us what your skill(s) are.

Naughty Dog is also a company that is paying its employees to develop games.

You're trying to bring together a volunteer group but at the same time telling this group that they have to release under HolyHell Games.

I don't mean to hijack your thread. I think saying you want to form a team to build a game is excellent, since multiple people will likely make a better game. However, the release-name restriction you are stubbornly applying to a volunteer team is likely not going to get you many willing developers.

  • Excal good point.

And here's my tip (based on experience): if you get a team together, make sure you have an art director (can be one of the game artist. Or if there's more, the best one). Get feedback from the whole team, but let the art director have the final say. That way the game will have a consistent look (if the art director is any good), and the artist(s) won't quit after 2 weeks.

    +1 on this advice.

Past experience - programmer/game designers make for terrible art directors :/

  • I have a question, you want the game under name X(HolyHell), but then who owns the IP? The game designer in question or HolyHell(you)?

I think it's a fine idea, but I'm not one to give up ownership of my IP.

I'm not an artist or composer, just a programmer.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I would actually be fine to give you IP, so long as you mentioned me.

  • My original idea was to bring a team together and from whiten the people who had an interest find a team lead then fill in other positions as the team came together. I own Hollyhellgames.com and from my previous post i wanted to publish under that name as I own it. I have no problem with the team(s) coming up with their own name as i have a few myself for the actually team name. If they decide they dont ant to be tied to holyhell thats fine ill keep that for my personal projects. Ill fund what i can when it come to websites and fees but ill also be counting on kickstart to help out. Im working on my own project and i assume that everyone else is too, im just trying to bring people together to share ideas and produce games as a team. This is new for me, as im in the military (8 years) as a logistic specialist (leading people, finance) but im working towards a BA in game development/interactive media. From my experiences working with different people it seems like people do better work when you have a good team around you with direction and a goal. I think as long as i can get a good team together I can help guide that team in a direction thats good for everyone involved.

    My email is chadnon85ahx@gmail.com

  • As for the IP ownership. Id like it to be a partnership unless the designer will release rights to it. As I would be paying for publishing, website and other fees id own majority. Shared ownership of the IP would remain between me (under what ever name the team decides to go with) and the original designer. But only to the point as long as the original designer remained part of the development team. If they left the they would get the option to buy owning rights back to the game (which would be decided by the remaining members of the team). Thats just my idea for IP ownership but I dont have any incite or experience in the area.

  • Well I offer good luck. I hope you form your team. I think a good cooperative team is awesome. however, I've been tinkering with Pen and Paper, board game and fluff stuff for years. I really can't bring that to the table and lose out on controlling IP of the material.

Sharing the profits on an IP while in cooperative company work I'm ok with. Holyhell and the team keeping the game, I'm ok with, but lose of creative ownership of a fabricated setting. eh. i'm not ok with. It's not the game ownership that bothers me. it's losing the IP.I just can't lose all control of my IP in other areas(not just the one VG) due to one mini game under the label of another company. :)

however, besides my reservations I offer the best of luck to you finding a team :). There is a lot of people who are looking and I'm sure will fall under the banner.

I also personally don't have a problem with your name :) though someone did have a point. There is a small, but loud group that will take offence.

  • jayderyu: I see your point, after reading your thoughts I understand and agree with you. I dont want to build a team that just takes over ideas and says "thanks for the idea, have a good day". IP should stay with the person who created the original idea, but how would it work if the holder of the IP left the team. Would sign rights/ownership to that game so the team/publisher doesnt have to pay to use the original idea? But this would probably be better to discuses on a case by case base with some kinda legal party involved.
