  • NotionGames Hi again, sorry this took so long but here's a basic Mario overworld type example. It mainly shows how to go to a layout by name.

  • Awesome! I'm downloading it now! I was constantly scratching my head about this! Thanks!!!

  • No problem NotionGames, the method of this one works on the ZIndex (which one is in front) of the level icons.

If you'd need something with paths like traditional mario then the easiest way would be to use built-in paths rather than loading them from a file.

If you'd like I can try to have an example of that up here sometime.

  • Hi Jayjay. Does the construct game development guide cover topics like streaming for large areas, creating save systems for games, custom controls (keyboards and controllers) during runtime, setting up resolution options in game menus, setting and changing multiple difficulty options, creating mini maps.

  • Hi TunaUppercut, the book does teach level editing/saving which can easily be used for saving game stats instead, and creating mini-maps is covered quickly along with Canvas and Plasma objects in the quick examples chapter.

Streaming of large levels was not taught as the book is aiming for beginners, so none of the games were likely to have complex levels larger than games like Mario or Sonic.

Non-user-changeable custom controls through events is taught, but non-standard plugins are not used in the book (so the Input System plugin is not shown).

Resolution options is a good idea, but was left as something performed in the Construct Classic editor rather than a user option.

  • Thanks for the information. I ordered a copy.

  • No problem TunaUppercut, and thanks! I hope you like it =]
