  • Can't say I don't like it. But it looks a little blurry compared to the "pixelartish" style.

  • looks verry good, but it could be less blurry.

  • Graphics are very nice, i like them. Also, you're learning things pretty well.

  • Just add to what i wrote - i think you should stick with this style idea, but use 1px brush to draw outlines of envirement.

  • I think the new style of the graphics is fine (more than fine... it's awesome ), however there are some readability issues with the contrast of the image. The dark parts of the girl's suit are the same value as the bushes she's standing in front of, and it's hard to make out. If you kind of squint your eyes slightly it appears that it's a few patches of white floating in front of the bushes. For a still image like that it's no big deal, but for a game in motion a greater separation of contrast would help keep track of the player.

Adding to the effect is the color saturation of the background is very close to that of the player, which is another thing that can cause the player to "get lost."

  • Very nice. I like the tree trunks.

  • I MUCH prefer that style to be honest... The new stuff isn't bad but it just doesn't have the artistic depth that the pixel stuff had..

I've finally gotten around to updating my game. Still lots to do of course, but I've finally settled on an art style and player character that I like. The fighting engine is getting there, as well as the chat system. Still playing with the camera, not sure if I'll scrap the zooming or keep working on it. Anyway, here it is. Let me know what you think.

Extract both files into the same directory.

    Controls:

    A - Left

    S- Duck

    D - Right

    J - Attack

    K - Ranged Weapon

    L - Jump

Enter - Interact and Forward Chat

  • I think that if you correct outlines with 1px brush, it will look decent.

I guess you really feel strongly about this, seeing as how you've posted it twice.

  • Thanks for all the comments. The blurriness may be due to jpg compression. I only noticed it looking closer at the image, but don't see the same blurriness when playing. When I put out another demo, I guess I'll see if thats a real problem.

I know some like the pixel art style better, but really it's much faster for me to do the graphics this way. Sorry!

Good feedback deadeye. It'll be tough to make both parts of her suit stand out since they are very contrasty. I will be adding more elements into the background so hopefully that will help to push the character out. I'll have to remember to do the grayscale\squint test to make sure the character stands out.

Don't be sorry, I think that's cool . I'd like to see some high-res games made with Construct, not only because it looks sweet, but also to show people that Construct can do more than just pixelly stuff.

  • I think higher-res graphics are suited to Construct more so than pixel art based games.
