I want the game's settings to allow the user to change a volume from 0% to 100%, but of course I need some kind of equation thanks to the fact dB doesn't work this way with 0 being full volume, -10 being half that volume, -20 being half that, -infinity being mute etc.

So from 0 to -20 you have 20 steps.

Let get the current Volume / 20 * 100 => you will have the % of volume.

Decibels are actually on a logarithmic scale, so it would be:

decibels = 20*log10(percent/100)

0% -> -infinity db

50% -> -6.02 db

100% -> 0 db

According to the construct docs -10 is half but other sources online show -6 as half for standard audio decibels. Maybe construct uses a different scale? Or maybe it was a typo?

At any rate if you want it to match the construct docs just change to formula to:

33*log10(percent/100)
