[PC, iOS, Android] Star Nomad - Greenlit

  • Excellent game

Justed wasted an hour on it

Plays fine on my 2012 nexus 7 most of the time

Have had to shut down my tablet a couple of times as it was crashing at the ludei screen

I honestly have no idea whats going on with CJS, it used to work very well. This game isnt that intensive on memory, but the crashes are related to the libCocoonJSLib.so library and not memory warnings.

Glad you like the game though!

  • Ill have to give this game a shot with my Samsung Galaxy 8.4 Pro tomorrow. I will let you know what it does.

    Thanks.

I did testing on Samsung S4/S5 but didnt have access to the tablets to test, only other tabs like Nexus 7/10 and LG etc. Seems CocoonJS is really bugged for certain Samsung devices, hope they fix it soon.

I just tried it on my Pro 8.4... no bugs I had found... the only thing I can think of is the map you have, it cuts off at the right a bit.

Plays really nice on the device also... that's a Snapdragon 800 with an Adreno 330 GPU however.

    Good job!

Great! Can you give me a screenshot of what it looks like on your device? It's got super high res, 2560 x 1600 p or 16:10 ratio..

I can move everything to the left a bit if its scaling wrong on 1600p screens.

Also, Star Nomad runs great even on old devices with Tegra 3, like the Nexus 7 2012 and HTC One X. That was my target performance level, I would test on it to ensure it runs smoothly.

  • Hmm, was looking forward to trying this, but no go for me.

Installed on galaxy tab 2, displays the luidi logo then crashes....

  • michael

Yup its currently bugged with V8 javascript (CocoonJS) and some Samsung devices (in particular S2,S3 and tab 2/3), its really annoying but I've contacted Ludei and they have said the bug is fixed and updated and there will be a new CJS version in about 10 days.

Luckily it works flawlessly on Samsung S4, S5 and Note 2/3, along with their newer tablets. If the bug killed it on those popular newer devices, I would have committed Seppuku. >_<

So far other devices seem to be fine, haven't received any major crash reports for other brands, unless really old 800 resolution stuff with 256MB of ram, which is way below my minimum spec.

Something I hate with Google Store is that they won't let you specify a minimum spec so you can block out devices that don't meet the requirements.. you have to manually go through the list of 6,300 devices or so and flag each one. Not that I even know most of them and their hardware.

  • Would you consider lowering the resolution req a little? I have a 7 inch galaxy tab 2, the screen is big enough I'd say. But the game says unsupported.

BTW When was the game first uploaded? You got to 500+ installs pretty fast. What's your secret?

  • nice game, well done.

I thought it had crashed however as it took about 15 seconds to load up and the "powered by LUDEI" flash screen did not appear. nearly de-installed it on the spot.

Yeah its unfortunate with bigger games and CJS, just takes awhile to load. On most of my devices it took 24s to load but I do see the powered by Ludei screen immediately.

What device are you running it on and can I ask how well its running?

You can play it with lower res devices, but I have blocked a bunch of Samsung devices from accessing the game for now due to a bug in V8 & CJS that crashes on them. Hopefully its fixed next week.

It was released last week. 500+ installs is pretty low because I havent advertised it anywhere besides a few gaming forums.

I'm still hoping a few Android review sites pick it up... but it prolly wont happen, very few of them give no-fame indie devs a chance. They all review Angry Birds Epic or Boom Beach etc etc.

  • I'm using an ACER A1 tablet. it runs fine and on subsequent runs, the LUDEI flash screen popped up.. however that first run is the critical one.. so i'm not sure anything can be done but if you see a lot of quick uninstalls before anyone even did anything, then you might want to check that

    Thanks.

I've never tested on an intel atom device or 4:3 ratio devices, its interesting that it runs ok (besides the slow loading times).

So far the feedback I'm getting is either an awesome game or bad cos it crashes or fail to load. I'm sorting out the block list of devices to remove all the older stuff that wouldn't run the game.

Really wish for a minimum spec block list.

  • Wow that's pretty cool, well done

Just a quick note, it would be very useful to allow skipping dialog once you've read it. I read the dialog quickly then had to wait for each sentence to change. Not everyone reads at the same speed.

I was a massive fan of Wing Commander/Privateer so was looking forward to a first person perspective lol. Still good though

  • Try Construct 3

Thanks. Did you try any of the missions yet?

As for the top-down, it's just easier to do and fitting for mobiles with the touch controls. I really can't play mobile games with twin digital pad/stick on screen. Seems to be quite a common thing too.

I had thought about the dialog skip, but most of the dialog occur at the start, once the brief intro/tutorial is done the rest of the game is low dialog except for a few story missions.

Also just added it on Greenlight, not expecting to actually be greenlit but may as well try: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =274647892
