  • Woah! I've been struggling with framerates and HTML5 on Android but this looks amazing!

but for some reason I can't download it on my HTC Desire Z, tells me it's not compatible.

  • When making a html5 game for android phone, what format do you export to also whats the best screen resolution and size to use for layouts

it was said many many times, that there's no such thing as best resolution http://www.scirra.com/tutorials/73/supporting-multiple-screen-sizes

export is through eclipse / phonegap combo :)

  • Congrats Sugart, the game plays very smoothly on my nexus:)

Do you guys have any tips or tutorials on how to optimize performance for exported games from Phone Gap? I've exported some really simple examples, but they run like a dog with low fps. :(

For example I grabbed and exported Kyatric's simple ipad motion demo from here: scirra.com/forum/ipad-platform-game_topic47735_page2.html

and even that runs really slowly.

  • Actually don't worry about the above question, I'll repost as a question to avoid hijacking the post <img src="smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

phonegap 1.4.1 was included in every phonegap export from C2 in versions prior to 85, since phonegap build doesn't need it, you don't need it too :) If you're using eclipse to build your app, there's no reason actually to use 1.4.1 version, use most recent one.

  • game looks very nice, can't play it yet since I don't have my android phone anymore

one question, if you were to play the game in your phone's browser by using preview on LAN or dropbox, does it play at the same FPS? what's the difference?

reason I ask is because the game that I'm working on hasn't been tested as a native app yet, only in phone browsers where it's too slow. and since I haven't built it yet with PhoneGap I'm hoping it gains some speed when I do. did build it with appMobi and it was like 2FPS :(

  • I think that everything will be much better when Construct 2 will total support AppMobi and mainly the "AppMobi Direct Canvas Accelerates". So let's ask Ashley to make this possible.

You can see this page that say how much the improvement is possible...it's just fabulous:

it will play slightly faster, but not too much. if it's 2fps in appmobi, i wouldn't expect more on phonegap, optimize your game graphics, remember that mobile phones have poor hardware, dont use particles, big sprites, lots of animations. watch out for sprite resizing and changing their angle.

  • I'd really like to try out your game on my Motorola Defy, but it say it's incompatible in the Market.. which is kinda weird. My girlfriend has a Samsung Galaxy 5 (I5500) and it says it's compatible.. any idea why it isn't compatible with the Defy?

And I've been trying to take my games to Android too, I was using appmobi and even tho the game is playable, the framerate is awful and there's a really weird bug with the platform behavior. Might as well try phonegap now!

    Thanks!

  • I'll look into it some time later this week but that's strange, the game is set to support all screen aizes and is compatible with the lowest android sdk version. is your android up to date? what android version is installed.on your defy?

  • I'm using Android 2.3.7! It's up to date, I use the MIUI custom ROM and am constantly updating it as soon as new versions come out.
