  • Hey guys,

I've been playing around with this for a while, and I think I need some feedback. Especially regarding how well it runs for you. Mind you, this has placeholder graphics, it's buggy, and whatnot. But there is a ton to do in game as is.

Currently, there is a partial framework for:

    • Separate identities for both Alias and Super mode.
    • 8 different skills/power/devices.

-- Gun, Grappling Hook, Acrobatics, Fighting, Capturing, Super Suit, Super Flight, Mind Reading.

    • Interior mini-games for Alias Mode.
    • City mini-games for Alias and Super Mode.
    • Drivable car and helicopter.
    • Different Factions. Currently there are "working stiffs". cops, thieves, and enforcers.
    • You can save people from burning buildings
    • You can be good or bad as a "super" or an "alias"... either independently, or otherwise.
    • Lots of hidden notes around the city to help you find the powers.
    • Currently, you can grab all of the abilities from your home (marked SH). This is to test the powers.

    Enjoy! <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile">

  • i can has mac build? sounds crazy...

  • If I had a Mac, I certainly would make a build for you. But, I think I need a machine to make a working export file.

  • If you export your game via node-webkit it should give you an osx folder -- that's the mac build! Just send it over and I can test for you

  • Hmm... You know, I've tried that before with another game, and it didn't seem to work.

I just compiled a version for you. Let me know what happens. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile">

  • I have a feeling it didn't work for you. I did make a new browser version. It's jittery until everything is loaded in, and it seems the character doesn't animate well. But it will give you the idea of what I am trying to do. The controller doesn't work with firefox, but since Node-kit uses Chrome, it should work in that browser. It would be interesting to hear how it works for you. Just remember that it isn't optimized.

As a reminder, if you've been to this page before... clear your cache. You can also click in the address bar and press enter and/or press the refresh button to clear the old page out of memory.

  • I uploaded another version. There are tons of additions...

    • Eye lasers
    • Effects added to the game
    • The Alias and Super identities both have their own reputations. You can now switch to your other form if you want to hide (just make sure your other form isn't hated).
    • Elevators added.
    • Security Cameras added.
    • A skeleton for an "Elevator Action" like game has been added to the break-in system.
    • Camera Effects added.
    • World Clock and Incident Event System added.
    • Flying Saucers added. These will pick up citizens and take them to the mothership.
    • Mother ship added. The mother ship flies along the top of the city, and launches saucers during "Alien Attack" incident events.
    • New effects for Accident Events.

Hopefully I get some feedback. This thing is getting pretty fun just to run around in. I can't wait until I get further along with it.

    Enjoy!

  • This look fun (and probalby more complex than i can handle now.

You should work on the controls and give some help what can be done (and what's the goal)...

I like it but i can't get the point of the game so far...

  • Hey, thanks for checking it out!

Actually, what you mentioned is in the works. My main goal at this point was to make sure it ran well and seemed interesting to people. I have an in-game tutorial/journal system being fleshed out (and almost done). Hopefully that will be coming in the next couple weeks, as I'm working on this between jobs.

Thanks for the input and encouragement!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Another update with lots of additions... including some machinima, mini-games, and a journal/information system.

The game still doesn't save, because I am trying to get a feel for how I want the game to progress... but it's pretty fun to grab all the gear, explore, and discover some of the mini-games placed about (all in infancy as well... but hey, I am doing this as a full-time dad. pun semi-intended. lol).

Don't forget: if you're using the web version and you've visited there before, you will need to clear your browser cache to see all the changes. This is of course is best played on Chrome... and if using Chrome, you may also use an xbox controller.

    Enjoy!

  • Hey wow, this is pretty impressive I think! Like mercuryus said, there's a interesting complexity to it.

I kept getting the message to check my journal with j and go find some work every time I entered and exited a building. It got really annoying. I suggest adding an animation when searching. Right now you can grapple on to a grapple point from beneath the floorboards in an interior. Also, in city hall, I got stuck on the bottom floor. I used the elevator and bugged it out I think. It went down and just left the world, haha! Well, just a couple of bugs and comments.

Anyway, I really think it's awesome how you've created AI for the npcs. It inspires me to keep working on my own game and it shows off what's possible with construct 2! I need to keep playing it but it's very cool. Regarding how it runs, the performance seems find on my PC but I've got a very powerful gaming. Will you add a story to it? Keep it up!!

Thanks for checking it out and giving input (and for the encouragement too)!

A searching animation is a good idea... I really should have an animation for every action.

I'll check out the elevator code in City Hall. Some of the layouts are in an experimental stage, and I think City Hall is one of them. Was that the only area you had elevator issues?

Yep, I have a story underway. The current movie scene is the first draft scene in a series, that will hopefully end in something entertaining.

It's great to hear that it ran well on your machine... did you use the exe, or the website version?

    Thanks again,

    -Jeff

  • Hey man,

played it for about 20 minutes now and discovered the world

But why do the cops hunt me if I lazerize some UFOs? I mean yeahh....a little collateral damaga...but i save the goddamn planet

  • Hey, thanks a lot!

Hehe... Yes, the cops go aggro if you set buildings on fire with your laser vision. The end idea is to have a set of powers that can destroy or offer support. And which power you use on who, will determine who likes you... or wants to hurt you (still not fully fleshed out). To offset accidental damage when trying to save people from aggressors, there will be a system that weighs damage with the lives you save. I want to give the player the feeling that they can be any kind of Alias/Super combo they want, and be able to succeed or fail with the ability to redeem yourself... while the city is paying attention.

If you can, try to swoop down and save a falling citizen from a UFO you've just downed... The effect you'll see is the beginning of a "super-feat" system, that gives prestige to the player when doing difficult comic tropes.

    Thanks for saving the planet!

  • I had sometime and did a few updates.

    • You shouldn't see a news or journal "news flash" more than once, unless you open the journal.
    • You can lose wanted levels by putting out window fires... this allows you to lose the wanted level you gain from starting them.

I think I may rework the grapple-hook system. I might make it behave more like it does in Worms, etc. However, I based my player on the platform system, so I will have to use fake physics... or fysics for short! :p

EDIT: Oh yeah.. If you've played with this before, don't forget to clear your browser cache to see the changes.
