  • > minor, JK! It's about time you went for more colourful backgrounds. Looks well nice mate. Love the retro style!

Any suggestions? My art skills really don't extend past what you see in the screenshot.

8x8 characters I can barely manage, but things like backgrounds and bigger stuff I'm shockingly bad at.

Not sure I could add anything since your screenie looks nice as is. Nice and simple as it should be. I was going to comment on the dirt tiles where the lines are diagonal, but I actually think it suits those lines. You have a style that doesn't need to be bogged down with details or complex patterns. Obviously, my opinion is just based on that screenie, maybe it's different when playing it. Show us more screens if you can't show us a demo :p

  • i Am J, an oldschool platformer with linear levels and a worldmap (style SMB3 )

The thing with this game is that certain NPCs and events interact with the character throughout the levels, and quests can go between levels as well. There's a shop system and three levels are already fully fledged. As I know myself, though, I'd probably drop that in a couple of days due to loss of interest. Chiptune OST and graphics are mine, too.

    They're 1024x768 pics so I suppose I'll just hotlink them D:

    yeah, that looks wonderful

I wish I knew my colour theory

where can I learn that without dedicating my schooling to it?

Work from high resolution into low. Use source images for everything, even stylised graphics.

Thanks! I'm using hi-res sprites. It does take quiet some vram but anyone with a card of 128 mb of ram should be able to play this properly.

    O_O

yeah I'm working on automatic black bars and zooming for multi-resolution games (as a lot of people complained only on the lack of multi-resolution of my first game). Working nicely so far.

Please comment there if you have any ideas.

Foreground is runtime on a different aspect ratio than design-time, seen on the background. See how the objects still appear on the right position, right along the screen edge, even though the window size and aspect ratio are different (set to 16:10 at 640x480, something you'd probably get when going fullscreen in a netbook)

  • Wow, so many cool screen shots and projects o.o Already posted my Wop in my topic, but emm
