Boxtory|2D Platformer [DevLog]

  • I did a lot of things since the last post. So:

    • You can now push boxes around. That was something many People mentioned. But there are still a few bugs right now.
    • An also important Change is that the Robot now have a battery pack. Means that every secound the Player lose engery. And when the battery is empty you must load (you cant move).
    • There is now a Little lightning (look at the gif)
    • And there is a new trap: The Press

    Should i always make a to you NN81, mercuryus ??

  • Again new News. Like you can see the finally Name of the game is Boxtory. We must Change the Name because of a Little game on Google Play. Also i solved one of my biggest Problems with pushing boxes around with help by 99Instances2Go . And here is now the working gif of the TNT box.

  • I think it looks good. I'm sure you put in lots of longs hours to make this game. I sure as hell did with mine so far lol best of luck with this project 😀 if you have time check out my project in the works in progress feed. It's called Alien Assault

    Here are a few news. First the bad: I didnt have so much time last week so ive done not so much. I also not finished the new dialogue box... Hopefully it will work soon.

    I fixed a few things and added a verry cool effect: An old TV Filter. In the story the perspective should look like a cam. Maybe some of you have ideas how to include this better. (A picture is below)

    Important News

    : I must just do the level design and than you can test the early prototype. Hopefully at least a few of you will test it.

    Now two questions:

    • should the advanced dialogue box be include in the prototype
    • and there is a new disscussion about the graphic style. I know that it acctually is to late to change the style but to time there arent any graphics just code so thats not the problem. We thought maybe a pixel art style would be better than a vector style because it would be easier...

    Hopefully some of you write their opinions or just that they are looking forward for the prototype.

    Juhu, the first person wich will Play the prototype. I know that i wasn´t so active in the last time. But i did many things in this week. There are now two of three Prototype Levels and many other new Features and bug fixes. It was hard work to fix all These bugs. And after about 700 Events and about 250 objects each Level, I´m so glad to can say:

    This Weekend the Prototype will come!

    What i must do this week:

    • the last Level for the Prototype
    • Fixing the last Little bugs
    • make a Google Document so that it will be easier for you to give me Feedback
    • and finding prototype testers

    What you must do:

  • The Prototype is there! Prototype testers seachred!

    First i want to thank everyone who takes the time and trys out this prototype. Also i made a little survey for you to help me as much as you can without taking to much time.

    Yay. The day we all waited for (i think only me) is there. Here is the PROTOTYPE!

    First a few things:

    • This is only a Prototype so all graphics will be made new after the prototype
    • There is no story and dialogue box at the moment
    • There are missing many traps and boxes
    • at the moment there are 3 levels (2 easy and 1 really hard)

    NN81 and mercuryus : Im really sorry but i tried it for 3 hours i think now abd Scirra Arcarde dont works. I dont know the reason. There is nothing wrong with the zip and so on. I´ll try my best to put it on Scirra Arcarde too as soon as possible.

    So now the Prototype is on Dropbox. Download just the file extract it and start the nw.exe. It was hard work to make the game as far as a single person so i would thank you as much if you write a comment and fill out the survey. So now have fun with this game.

    I played the demo and I've left some feedback on your survey, but for the benefit of other forum users here some of it.

    • Get rid of the TV filter, it doesn't add anything to the look; it just makes the sprites/graphics look a little worse than they should
    • I don't think you need health AND the blue thing ("akku") - just have one or the other...
    • the little orange tank bot has really glitchy movement when changing directions
    • there's too many "walls of text" at the start... keep it simple, "here's the controls, etc... good luck"
    • the player controls are very slippy... unless that's what its supposed to be like
    • When I got to the end door it opened, but then closed before I got in....

    It´s really a Little bit annoying. I worked just on the prototype not on the game at all about 5-10 hours and i got Feedback from 2 People. I understand if People dont have the time but how can it be that more than 140 People look at this page since the realese and just two write a Feedback or fill out the Survey. Thats a convension about 1.5%... I think that mercuryus and NN81 just dont had the time to test it...

    I got many diffrent opinions to this. Many a few (of my friends) liked it. A few not. I didnt decided already what i will do.

    All testers mentioned that. It will get deleted.

    I think i know what you mean. You mean if i place a box direct in front of him and behinds him is a wall the Animation is verry Buggy. That is known bug to me but i couldnt fix before the prototype.

    - there's too many "walls of text" at the start... keep it simple, "here's the controls, etc... good luck"

    That was just a temporary solution. The final tutorial will more lock like the text in the Level.

    You must press return when you are overlapping to the door. But it think that was in the "walls of text" included.
