There are several ways to make money.

    1. Release the game on your website and have ads around it

    2. Get your game sponsored by an advertiser.

    3. Make an game for mobile devices and charge money for it.

    4. Make a game that has in game purchases for the chrome store, facebook and mobile devices.

Here's some good info on making money from flash-based games. HTMl5 should be no different : Making Flash Games For a Living

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

It would be cool if there was adsense for games.

You could either make money indirectly via having your games as a showcase for your skillset and getting contract jobs, or you might try the facebook app or phonegap + selling route.

    Well my two cents:

Get your game on an app store.

Problem: Massive competition depending on the app store. Apple app store for example is very saturated. Your game must be in above average level at min, and you MUST spread the word about how cool is your game on the four winds.

Freemium Games : Free to play game, but you can purchase in-game improvements for your character for example.

Problem: You have to plan things extensively and come up with a good business model. Like what things would be paid and what things would be free. How far free players can go in the game compared to paying players etc.

But the most important thing is : Your game must be good. How good ? The players must not only be thrilled by your game on first look and first play but be compelled to come back to it again and again. So it doesn't matter, you could as well make a site for your game and put a big Buy Now! button if it's good enough.

    Just found this: http://www.ad4game.com/

^^^ that looks really awesome. It will happen eventually. Adsense works the best when it comes to advertising. So hopefully google will put it in their chrome store.

Adsense works the best when it comes to advertising.

I would have to disagree about working best maybe it pays out the most sometimes. Google Adsense has a algorithm that searches for a 3% or more increase in account ad clicks per month. If you are a small website or business, and Google notices a 3% or more increase in your sites ad clicks you will receive a email like this:

his message was sent from a notification-only email address that does not

accept incoming email. Please do not reply to this message.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    Hello,

After reviewing our records, we've determined that your AdSense account

poses a risk of generating invalid activity. Because we have a

responsibility to protect our AdWords advertisers from inflated costs due

to invalid activity, we've found it necessary to disable your AdSense

account. Your outstanding balance and Google's share of the revenue will

both be fully refunded back to the affected advertisers.

Please understand that we need to take such steps to maintain the

effectiveness of Google's advertising system, particularly the

advertiser-publisher relationship. We understand the inconvenience that

this may cause you, and we thank you in advance for your understanding and

    cooperation.

If you have any questions or concerns about the actions we've taken, how

you can appeal this decision, or invalid activity in general, you can find

    more information by visiting

    http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=57153.

    Sincerely,

    The Google AdSense Team

Then if you appeal there decision even if you can prove you did nothing wrong they will send you a email like this:

    ello,

Thank you for your appeal. We appreciate the additional information you've

provided, as well as your continued interest in the AdSense program.

However, after thoroughly re-reviewing your account data and taking your

feedback into consideration, our specialists have confirmed that we're

unable to reinstate your AdSense account.

As a reminder, if you have any questions or concerns about your account,

the actions we've taken, or invalid activity in general, you can find more

    information by visiting

    http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=57153.

    Sincerely,

    The Google AdSense Team

Then they will keep all the money in your Google Adsense account, and banned your email address so they don't have to ever deal with you again.

If you want to use the banner factory model for making money I would strongly suggest using an alternative to Google Adsense. It might not pay out as much but you will at least get paid.

Another way people are making money from there games is buy selling virtual goods in game. Zynga uses this method on facebook, and out did EA Games in yearly sales last year.

I wish Adsense had some major competition. I would love to integrate facebook ads into my games.

There's a technique on how to make money

first test your game with your family then test with people in your entourage if they like your game post it on chrome app shop for a fee and then host it and make the compatibility with all other browsers and advertise your game through youtube , email ,twitter, facebook and others

but this won't take a little , it can take years and years

I think that if you put a lot of work into something, and that you have an innovative idea, you should be able to make some money from it.

    I don't see Construct2 to as a hobby.

I strongly encourage Scirra to develop ways for the users to promote and capitalize on their games.

The game industry is the biggest entertainment business right now and it's not going down. You should be able to make a great game with Construct2 and see some profits. Why not? I prefer flipping PNG's to flipping burgers. I don't need a hobby if my work is fun.

If it's money that motivates you, I say; at least you are motivated...

    I don't see Construct2 to as a hobby.

I have said this in my blog that Construct 2 is the best engine out there for 2D.

    http://johnbura.blogspot.com/

The freemium model is the best model to make money out there.

It would be nice if Scirra had plans to be used for commercial purposes but if they just want to be a hobby engine that is alright with me as well.

I plan to make commercial games with scirra simply because it is the best 2D engine I have found anywhere. The only thing that comes close is game salad and that is still a very good engine (but construct 2 is better)

mammoth I didn't mean to sound anti Adsense I use to have a good working relationship with them for a couple of years before that happened to me. I just wanted to let people know what Adsense could do to them at any time they wish it is in there agreement when you start an account with them.

I agree with oliwood (You should be able to make a great game with Construct2 and see some profits.) I have a friend that's been making a decent living making ISO games for the past 2 years now. He builds them mainly in Objective-C but says he is going to buy Construct 2 now that he bought a PC. He told me the trick is a lot of advertising, and sell them cheap $0.99.

We're keenly aware of people's desire to monetise their games - we're hoping to do something about it soon. It's just we're really, really busy.

It's no problem Ashley. I am just glad construct 2 exists at all. Even if we can't monitize it right now you can build and test your game. As well as add it to your portfolio and try to get a job somewhere in the industry.
