  • Hi,

Will Construct 2 get any updates from now on - if yes when will the updates/support stop?

I'm more comfortable using C2 at the moment to continue my projects for eventual release on a few platforms but want to know if I continue and put all the work in I will still be able to release/run my projects on these platforms.

If needed I would much rather pay outright for C3 rather than a subscription as I sometimes don't work on my projects for weeks or a month or 2 at a time due to work. If I paid for subscription I would just be throwing money away some months as I simply won't be using it. I don't understand why C3 requires a subscription, why can't we just pay for it, download it and use as/when/wherever we want with or without an internet connection.

As I only paid for C2 about 6-8 months ago and I will continue to use it and want to be reassured that I'll continue to get support/crucial updates for quite some time.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • 6 days and no reply but looking at one of your blog posts I can see you're encouraging people to move over to C3.

However, judging by the fact that people can still buy C2 and you have no information/notices on your Construct 2 purchase page stating that it will no longer be supported with updates now or in the future I'm going to assume that we can continue to use C2 for quite some time with future support and updates.

    Thanks :)

  • They are advising people to move over to the C3 runtime in C3, because it is new and previously was using the C2 runtime. Construct 2 will be maintained for bug fixes only, no additional features

I've been talking about this since the release of c3. The scirra Could join the payment method of the unreal engine, where you split the profits only when you start earning, or open the source code of c2 since it will be discontinued, just like Gdevelop of compilgames, which made its code open to community and has grown monstrously.

We would all like that very much but ... I do not think it will happen.

I think scirra would see there a loss of users towards C3.

Although it happened with construct classic.

  • Yeah, but as they say: "Only bug fixes"

Google play, admob and other stuff not working are bugs, so fix them already.

  • Has anyone made a proper bug report?

  • maxrpg123 read the latest blog post, it was posted after you started this topic.

    construct.net/en/blogs/construct-official-blog-1/launching-the-new-construct-3-runtime-1048

"So we will keep maintaining the old runtime for the foreseeable future. We advise that wherever possible you switch over to the C3 runtime though, since we cannot guarantee it will still be supported in the long term."

  • Yeah, but as they say: "Only bug fixes"

From what I understand ... the corrections have been made and are in c3! if you wish to continue using the construct, sign the monthly payment plan. All IAP plugins and admob are dead in c2. Be happy using c3 and have a nice day. :(

  • They are still selling Construct 2.

    Also:

Has anyone made a proper bug report?

  • Has anyone made a proper bug report?

It has several other post with reports of errors in phonegap, cordova, cocoon, no answers, solution.

  • If they stopped selling construct 2 people would lose their minds, so they keep selling it and people try to use that as leverage to get more updates it'S weird

  • It's not weird at all. Bug fixes means bug fixes. It's quite simple actually.

Some of us have a bunch of games that may or may not work better in Construct 2 and do not want to use Construct 3 for XYZ reasons. Whatever the reason, it is nobody's business really.

Construct 2 is still being sold and bugs are supposed to be fixed. End of story.

If I can import all of my 30+ games into Construct 3 without any headaches, fine I will do it, but that is not the case, and I do not use any plugins even other than whatever came with Construct 2.

  • I don't use a lot of plugins with my games so not really concerned about that at the moment. All I'm asking is for a guarantee that if I continue to use C2 for my current and future projects that I'll be able to release them on Windows/Google/App Store without any issues?

They're still selling C2 now for a one off payment of £199 and still advertising that you can create and publish games on numerous platforms but what if say in a few months time these platforms change some how which makes C2 projects no longer functional on those platforms. Surely they will update C2 to any new code structure requirements ect so they continue to function.

As some of you mention plugins like admob, cocoon and phonegap are not working yet they are still shown and advertised on the website as part of C2. They can't legally do that if they no longer work and they don't intend to fix them.

I've been through the website, gone through the buy now process (stopping short of actually buying it again) and at no point or anywhere on the site did it state C2 will no longer receive updates. So people are buying it thinking they can do all this great stuff and under the impression they'll be able to get updates and support in the future when in reality (until someone says otherwise) that is just not the case.

They need to fix the plugins or completely remove C2 from sale otherwise its false advertising.
