Audio seems to be totally broken?

Cat Ninja vs Monster Block is an exciting arcade game inspired by the break breaker style
  • I can confirm there's something wrong with audio.

This is a bit messy so bear with me:

    • I was editing my game "!!Skeletor in Space!!" back home using r84.

Sounds worked on Chrome only. Not Firefox, not IE9, not Iron (Chrome alternative). Also, when playing on Android mobide Chrome, only ONE sound comes out (the shock sound).

    • I noticed some other bugs, not sound related, so I installed a newer C2 version, r87, an re-exported and re-uploaded the game.

Audio remained the same as with r84 above.

    • Now I am at work and upon testing the game, I noticed audio is pretty much broken for me:

    --Chrome, Iron, Firefox only play the background ambiance "music";

--IE9 only play the laser sounds (and no ambiance)

The sound on the example provided by Nihakue did NOT work for me. Tested with r84 and r88.

If you all could PLEASE test my game also http://www.mangione.com.br/skeletorgame

Tell me if you hear any sound (or if audio is completely ok for you).

  • Gamekill, i can hear sound, using the same machine as specified above.

  • Works fine here, skeletors scream, the lazers and other effects all are heard.

Oh, just read the rest of the thread ( doesn't show when typing a reply haha ) - didn't realise you were running an emulator on a mac - do things like youtube/flash other web-based sounds work?

  • I think its the computer itself. You might not be doing anything wrong in your game since other computers can hear those sounds just fine (Haven't tested it in my PC btw :P).

  • I played Skeletor in space and all I could hear is the ambient sound; no scream, no lazer, nothin. Very interesting. Gamekill are you running windows 7 in a bootcamp environment as well?

JohnnySix I can watch youtube videos just fine, and even other Construct2 games will work (for the most part. I have found a couple that only load music and not sound FX)

I will just have to test my games with firefox and hope that they are working in Chrome for most people. Thanks everyone for the help. Gamekill, maybe we can put our heads together and isolate the issue.

  • I could run this game and the sound was just fine with the latest Chrome and Opera browsers. It even works in Safari. All in Windows 7.

But, it does NOT work with Firefox. Everything works fine except the sound. I'm running Firefox 13.0 and this is not good!

I don't get it. My latest game works just fine. Tilt-A-Twirl

Wait! Are you using .mp3 or .m4a or .aac files only? You have to have .ogg as an alternative to play music on dear old Firefox.

You should always have .m4a and .ogg on offer. .mp3 is bad, .ogg is good, and .m4a is pretty good (as long as you don't think of it as .aac).

    Isn't audio fun!

  • I am using Windows 7 x64 on a PC, not Mac/Bootcamp..

I guess the problem is not bootcamp.

Also, I am importing .ogg and .m4a files directly to C2.

Darn so it's not Bootcamp the problem. Not good. =\

  • nihakue Try opening Developer Tools in Chrome (Ctrl+Shift+I) and check for any error messages when you load the sound file. It look like this: (screenshot). It's also worth a try clearing your cache.

gamekill I'm sure your problem is got to do with mime types. Your server isn't setup for ogg files.

  • ramones

Everything seems to check out... I don't really know what I'm looking for, though.

    No, it's something else.

I just checked again at home, and all sound effects + background ambiance play fine on my Chrome browser. I cleared the cache and forced the entire game to re-download. Audio is perfect.

At work earlier today I tried the same thing, Win7 also, newest Chrome also. No sound, only ambiance.

I also asked my brother to try the game out at his workplace (he uses a Mac) and he got no audio whatsoever (I didn't ask the browser but still).

    This is puzzling..

  • nihakue So it's loading ok. What happens if you drag n drop the ogg file directly into Chrome? Does it play?

  • gamekill Chrome will play ogg files without the correct mimetype set but Firefox (and possibly other browsers) won't. Firefox error console shows the content-type is 'application/octet-stream' when it should be 'application/ogg' or 'audio/ogg'.

  • ramones Yeah, it plays no problem.

I really appreciate everyone's help on this one. I haven't been able to find a solution yet.

  • Hi all,

Uploaded the game to Dropbox, audio still not working properly :(
