  • I'm not sure I understand, can you explain some more?

  • I also like the idea of selling individual plugins

Right now plugins are just text files containing some javascript, so it's kind of tricky to think how they could be sold.

  • Do you prefer having an external image editor? I can add an option for that if you like.

  • If your drivers are out of date FF5 might disable hardware acceleration. It's difficult to tell what's going on sometimes!

  • Well, I'm sure in some way, we all are Tom!

(I'm sure it's an easy fix)

  • Not sure if that's true, since Chrome usually performs quite well with HTML5 stuff. As I mentioned in my earlier post it did beat Ffox in a little test I made

Did you test Firefox 5? FF5 added decent hardware acceleration, FF4 didn't have that.

lso when you go to the address about:flags in Chrome you can see an option 'GPU Accelerated Canvas 2D' which should be activated by default.

It's disabled by default in Chrome 12 - at least on my machine. If you enable it you should get decent performance, but judging by the framerates it's not enabled by default. I'm hoping they do turn it on in a future build soon though!

It's also possible browsers have incomplete acceleration - i.e. it uses hardware acceleration, unless you use some particular feature (e.g. the lighting in the demo), in which case it falls back to slow software mode.

Chrome does have one of the best software renderers though - in software mode it's far faster than Firefox in software mode, which would explain your result. Assuming only FF5 and IE9 have default-enabled hardware acceleration, they should both beat Chrome right now.

  • scirra construct is not that much famous as gamemaker.

No, but we think it's better.

ake it commercial I am sure they will lose many users.

We'll still have a free edition.

think If scirra developers wants to make money, they should have here some "donation" button.

We had one for Construct Classic for about 4 years. Of course, we appreciate donations, but we typically got something like one donation a month. We'd like to work full-time on the project, and it's simply impossible to rely on donations at that rate.

If you'd still like to donate to Classic, here's the fundry. Remember we've handed over development to volunteers now, we're focusing on C2.

rom which country is scirra team? I mean If it really will be commercial, there are many problems for some EU users...

We're based in the UK, so any donations/sales will be converted to GBP. Davo is out in Australia, but all our operations are likely to run just from the UK. We'll surely be working on an international purchase system, though.

Re: "monetize the things around it": I just don't think we've got the resources to do this, plus it's much riskier IMO. Right now there are two of us, and we're 100% tied up with our respective tasks (C2 and website). We just can't really afford to do all that - months of work - then give it away for free and THEN start working on the part which makes money. Rent payments are looming. Perhaps we could consider it in future. Besides, we'd then be competing with other tools which have the same idea, and I don't see what we can offer which is anything special or above and beyond our competitors. Someone could download our tool for free, then use some other tool's content marketplace which is cheaper/better/has more stuff. Our strength and speciality is Construct 2. We'll have a free edition, and some license options. I think that's fair.
