  • No, don't upload it to the arcade (that's for publishing finished games), just put the .capx file in a public Dropbox folder.

  • Hi all,

A bug where opening your project gives the error "Cannot find project file for animation frame" has been reported many times now. (FYI you can usually work around it by ignoring or hitting 'retry' - the project will load and you can find the missing images and replace them - but it's still a frustrating and possibly serious bug.)

I hoped to have fixed it in the last build (r73), but it seems not - it's still been reported since then. It is incredibly difficult (sometimes impossible) to fix bugs if I can't reproduce them myself, and despite lots of reports, I'm still clueless how to set up a project and reliably make this happen. I have a feeling it might be to do with renaming objects or animations, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone provide any extra info on the cause of the bug? Better yet, can anyone reproduce it? With a reliable repro I can probably fix it immediately for the next build, and this bug has lasted for a long time now. It's especially frustrating since it appears to be the last serious bug in Construct 2 (plenty more less serious ones though!) and I really want Construct 2 to be bulletproof in terms of stability, and this is a bit of a nasty blemish on what I think is otherwise a very reliable bit of software.

So, any help much appreciated on this one!

  • Can you upload the .capx for us to look at? We may be able to recover it.

  • Well they seem to have borrowed Chrome's browser engine to run the HTML5 apps... I think if Chrome added a feature to pin websites to the task bar, which they could probably do on a whim if they wanted to, that would seem to replace them completely...!

  • To be honest the forum rules are pretty editorial. Technically discussion of those things is not allowed, but where we feel it is reasonable we do allow discussion, but reserve the right under the rules to stop the discussion at any time.

For example point #2 is something many people are very opinionated about and can cause clashing strong views. That's a fact of life, but we'd rather it not happen here on the forums, there are other better places to discuss that kind of thing. For that reason I'm also locking this thread.

  • Well, I've fixed two bugs for the next build now thanks to this thread - numbers aren't accepted to animation parameters, and the = operator works properly for strings. So hopefully it will be a little smoother in the next release :)

  • They're running a competition at the moment. I checked it out but I don't seem to "get" it. It just seems to put a shortcut to a HTML5 app in your task bar.

  • Maybe it's missing ClearType which you get on an ordinary HTML page. I don't know, but it's certainly better than aliased!

  • This is also covered in our FAQ!

  • We're considering our options for this, but most payment systems require you set up your own server-side scripting, which requires programming knowledge. And if you're doing that anyway, coding your own plugin to interact with it in the Javascript SDK shouldn't be too much extra work. So it's totally possible with the SDK today. We're not sure when we'll get round to payments, we have a very long todo list, so I encourage anyone interested to look in to the SDK - anything we do ourselves may well require server side scripting so official features may not actually make it much less work.
