We still can not see through the sprites.

To make them "cut" through the top black layer we need to alter their properties/blend mode to "Destination out".

Unfortunately this can not be done with multiple sprites selected so just select one alter the blend to "destination out" and then do the same to the other.

Still not too exciting for you ?

This blend mode uses the alpha (or opacity) of the sprite to alter how much of underneath is showing through. Try altering the opacity of of the squares ? (hint properties bar)

One more thing to try

See in the object bar (bottom right) there is a sprite called spAlphaBlend ?

At the moment it is on "Layer Main" and we need to move it to "Layer shadow horse" (?) .

1. Left click spAlphaBlend in the object bar.

2. Properties bar - change layer from "Layer Main" to the other layer :)

3. Properties bar change blend mode to destination out.

unlock the layer if you need to and alter the size of spAlphaBlend.

See how the amount of Layer Main is showing through depending on the alpha ?

OK things to remember

.

1. You need to name thing

2. You need to have two or more layers (named) and the top one must be visible, not transparent.

C. The sprites (named) for "cutting through" need to be on the "shadow layer" with a blend mode of destination out.

4. You need something below the "shadow layer" to see

5. What happened to 3 ?

Well I had better go and do something else for a while.

I hope you found this entertaining if not educational.

Foundation set - next time we take another step into the dark....with a torch. "See you then"

Hi ho Shadow, away ....

Edit - 28/3/2014

Just a quick edit to try to clarify something that I did not made clear.

The overlay layer (shadow layer, top layer or the opaque layer) need to be set to "force own layer" or have its blend mode set to "destination out"

Have a look at the two almost identical capx ("basic torchlight force texture" and "basic torchlight destination out")

I do not know if there is an advantage of one method over the other - I nearly always use "destination out" but only because it was the method I first learnt and you cant teach an old dog....

As always if there are any questions please post and I will try to help - please put @RamPackWobble in to the post and that way I will get a nudge next time I log in.

Also a quick thank you to Odin and Arlys for translating these mad ramblings into Spanish
