Notes

In this beta release we're excited to launch a preview of Construct's new 3D editor! This is still relatively early in development, so please be aware there is a lot more to be done, and there may be quite a few bugs. In particular while you can currently use the 3D editor view to move the camera around and select things, moving objects still works in 2D (only along the XY plane). Support for the "gizmo" for better 3D manipulation is one of the next things we plan to implement. However we wanted to get the feature to you sooner rather than later so you can start trying it out and letting us know your feedback! You can get started by just pressing the new '3D' button in the Layout View. You should find a range of standard interactions working, such as holding the right mouse button to look around, during which you can also use WASDQE buttons to move the camera.

That's not all for this release: we also have a big update for the Construct Game Services plugin. This now supports a range of new services including broadcast channels and XP, and also has a range of improvements for other services like accounts, avatars, cloud saves and leaderboards. We're hoping to move to a full launch of Construct Game Services soon, so stay tuned for that!

We've also added a great new option for Windows exports in this release: you can now opt to export to a single executable file with the Windows WebView2 exporter! Similar to updating icons, after exporting you'll need to run PackToSingleExecutable.exe, but then you'll end up with a single .exe file that you can just double-click and run your project with all its assets bundled internally. This can make distribution more convenient, such as allowing running directly from a ZIP file without even having to extract it first. Please note that in this release the PackToSingleExecutable.exe and WindowsIconUpdater.exe tools are not digitally signed, so you may see a security warning running them - we intend to have these digitally signed again before the next stable release.

Other updates include enabling WebGPU in iOS and macOS exports, a few bug fixes, and another new example project. Happy testing!

  • Single file export is amazing! Great work!

  • The 3D editor is very poorly implemented; why isn't it possible to rotate the scene around all axes?

      • He has a good point though, the 3d camera is pretty much only good for 2.5D, and using it for a 3D first-person game really doesn't work because of how weird the angles are. In my opinion they really could've done better, but I'm glad we have a start at the very least.

        Also 'be patient' isn't really a good response to things like this.

  • 3D preview camera is okay, but somewhat disappointing. The lack of all-round rotating is upsetting because the camera angles do not really work well with first person games. Other than that it's pretty cool. Also while you're at it i feel like the sound stuff could really use an update because even with the new actions sound still doesn't just sit still.

  • Brilliant work on the 3D layout! This is a significant step forward. I'm looking forward to more camera controls, and continued work on this 2.5 approach in general :)

  • I know, this is still a Beta. But the 3D viewport is very promising 🤯. Hope one day we can have a "Fly/Walk" mode like in Blender 3D viewport"
