Not sure if I read properly but you know it does have coordinate read-out.

Just only shows how px right, and how many down your cursor is.

Yes I know this, but having the left and up coordinates would be helpful, especially when your objects (like mine) are mirrored to each other... it stops me from having to use math to figure out what right/down coordinates I am supposed to be using.

  • Gah! OK, I guess I'll have to give this a whirl later tonight...

newt, I like the way the revamp is coming along, it's looking really good!

  • Seriously, what's going to happen *after* 1.0? I think the sky will crack open and procedurally generated candy will fall out.

Hahahaha quote of the century right thar xD

  • I would love to have a button to collapse all the groups. I use dozens of them and it would be very handy to have one button that could collapse them all instead of manually having to collapse them one by one to keep things easy to scroll through.

Actually yes, this would be better than hiding groups. Having a "collapse/expand all" button would certainly be a nice feature.

  • Yeah I came across a use for this today, trying to line up a hotspot on two identically shaped (yet different) objects. When your hotspot isn't in the exact centre of your object (or other alignment numpad spots) you have to use guess-work in order to make it the same across all objects.

Adding a coordinate read-out would certainly be beneficial... even adding a "set hotspot" and "set imagpoint" by coordinates would be awesome, and equally as useful.

    Motion seconded!

  • Nice tutorial

Paralax is pretty easy, but for a beginner this can be an essential thing to give any game that touch of polish. Everyone has to start somewhere, and this tutorial makes it easy to understand how to make basic paralaxing.

    Good job!

  • I don't understand why, but this makes my uber-rig cry (I get down to less than 1fps as well)... Something is seriously wrong with this cap, and I can't put my finger on it yet. going to try something now and see how it fares.

    *EDIT*

As far as I can tell, there has to be a bug somewhere in this cap. It seems to be realted to your lerp call in the second to last event. I don't know enough about lerp to check your forumla, but the problem seems centred aroung that particular event.

I've had no luck in pin-pointing the exact cause, maybe someone else will have better luck, but I would be prepared to ready this for tracker submission as a bug if nobody else can suggest a solution.

  • Also to be able to edit the icon for existing families would be great as well.

  • Oh lawdy... I lol'd xD

I'm not 100% convinced this would be such a good idea myself, since comments are there for a reason. If I wanted to hide them, I wouldn't have put them there in the first place... having said that, if other people can see a use in it, then why not?

I would suggest something along what deadeye was thinking, like a little icon that appears at the top of the event sheet or something which indicates comments are toggled on/off. I guess while you are at it, you could make one for groups as well?

Also, being able to group comments together and collapse them, would be handy without having to use an actual group. don't know if this is possible, but I could certainly find a use for this if it were a feature.

  • Any chance of uploading your cap, or even a complied exe? I can then check it on my systems and see if there is similar slow-down, then try to find out why it's doing it.

  • In future maybe I can look for a PHPBB mod which will allow people to edit opening posts in the creation forum, that'd be good.

Yeah that would be a great idea... before I was bestowed with "edit anything" abilities... I had several instances where this would have been an incredibly handy option.

Failing that, I'm still more than happy to handle initial post edits for things like game, plugin, and creations threads.

  • 17" isn't impossible to move or anything, it's just a little cumbersome if you plan on using more as a mobile computer, but since you specifiy it will be used as a desktop most of the time, you probably won't care

And yes, definately go with the Toshiba... the quality of construction is superior to a lot of other brands, plus the parts they use tend to be more favourable across the board, ranging from speed, quality, and warranty coverage.

    Toshi wins the day again!

  • Personally I wouldn't touch Packard Bell, or Acer with a 50 foot barge pole... mind you they are still both 100x better choices than Compaq, Lenovo, or Dell.

I'd be looking to see what's on offer through Alienware, Toshiba, and MSI... though all of those brands probably don't manufacture something in the price range you are looking for.

The Packard Bell sounds like it has some good features for the price, but I'd be concered about the quality of parts, especially for what you are getting for the price... you get what you pay for when it comes to anything, but it rings more true to home when talking about computers.

In all honesty, if you can squeeze the budget a little more, you'd be better off pushing up to the 650-700 mark as you would get an infinately better machine for the extra.

Also 2.3 hours battery life is about average these days, but it depends on what you buy. My MSI EX600 notebook has a battery life of up to 4 hours (core2 2.2ghz, 4gb, 250gb, GeForce 8400) and I bought that over a year ago. Of course this soley depends on turning off things like wireless, and dimming the screen so low you can hardly see it unless it's pitch black in the room. A "realistic" operating time on battery is between 1.5-2.0 hours.

Also, keep in mind, the larger the screen gets, the less of a "laptop" it becomes and more of a "desktop" you end up with. 17" screens on laptops are generally a regreted purchase from my experience when dealing with customers... they always tell me later on that they wish they didn't get one so big, because the laptop is gargantuan and it weighs more... plus things like carry bags cost twice the price of a 15.4".

I guess, as long as you know all of this... you can make an informed descision. All of what I have said, can be summed up as an "opinion", or you can put it down to the last 13 years of experience I have had dealing with this stuff just about everyday. Either way... if you buy a Compaq (officially the WORST brand EVER) I will have to fly over there and strangle you in person!

    Good luck!
