I wanted to share a solution I found for an issue where Construct 3 fails to open projects.
**My environment:**
- Windows 10
- Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge
- Construct 3 running both in the browser and as an installed PWA
**The issue:**
In all four scenarios (Chrome browser, Chrome PWA, Edge browser, and Edge PWA), Construct 3 failed to open `.c3p` projects. Even the built-in templates failed to open, displaying this message:
"Could not open project. Check it is a valid Construct 3 single-file (.c3p) project."
The browser console also showed:
`[Project] Exception opening: TypeError: unexpected type`
**The cause in my case:**
After troubleshooting, I identified the **ExpressVPN: VPN & proxy browser extension** as the cause. Disabling the extension resolved the issue, and Construct 3 worked again.
I am sharing this because other users experiencing the same problem might spend time troubleshooting their project files when the issue is actually related to a browser extension.
If you encounter this error, check whether the ExpressVPN browser extension is enabled and test with it disabled.
