  • ElShaddai - you posted a .caproj, not a .capx file, which does not contain a complete project.

  • This is always a graphics driver problem - please try updating them and also read this.

  • Kastas is right, as they stand your events read "Platform is moving: set 'Run' animation - Platform is moving: set 'Idle' animation". Maybe you missed this part of the tutorial on page 6:

o make the above event you'll also need to invert a condition (appearing as the red cross). Inverted conditions mean the opposite of what they state. In this case, the inverted "Platform is moving" condition then means "Platform is NOT moving". To invert a condition, add it normally, then right-click on it and select Invert. Alternatively, select it and press I.

  • You'll have to loop through the array to look it up. However once you've got the result you can keep it (global variables don't move or change during the game, apart from their 'data' members.)

  • Have you read How to make a Platform game?

  • Just want to draw attention to this post again: we're starting to get spammers who are a little more subtle. They'll take some random sentence from earlier in the thread to look like they're participating, but have spam links in their signatures. Don't forget to report any posts you find suspicious and we'll check them out.

  • Try accessing the array this.runtime.all_global_vars. It is a list of all global cr.eventvariable objects. You can learn more by browsing the source, but the important members of an event variable are:

    ev.name // variable name

    ev.vartype // the variable type, 0 = number, 1 = string

    ev.data // the value

You can use this to look up and retrieve global variables by name, but note if you change a value, you *must* respect the vartype member, else you will break the runtime. (i.e. don't set 'data' to a number if vartype indicates it's a string.)

Edit: moving to Javascript SDK forum.

  • Might want to check out the relevant manual entry for UID and IID too.

  • This isn't really of any practical use for games, to be honest. PCM Wave files are huge and you'd never want to leave the user downloading them instead of an Ogg or AAC equivalent.

  • Are you using the latest beta r93? We made a fix for that bug recently.

  • Does anyone here have a Playbook?

It turns out the OS 2.1 (currently in beta) is 3x faster than OS 2.0. I just tried it on my Playbook and our performance test flies and gets a great average framerate of 30 fps. It previously only got 9! This makes it a potentially very good target for publishing games. I've updated our mobile performance test blog post with the new result.

If you have a Playbook you can opt in to the 2.1 beta update here:

    https://developer.blackberry.com/devzone/register

You should see your games running way faster after the update.

In theory PhoneGap should be able to publish games as native apps to the Playbook, and apparently unlike iOS PhoneGap doesn't kill the framerate - it should be just as good. Unfortunately I haven't figured out a way to test an app without publishing it all the way to the App World. I'll investigate further tomorrow. However, I'm interested if anyone has something ready for submission to the App World and if they'd be willing to submit and share their experiences. I've heard App World apps make more money than on the Android App Store, so it would be an interesting experiment if someone has an evening free to try this.

  • Sorry, Safari does not support any way to force orientation. What you can do:

    • Publish with appMobi/CocoonJS to make a native app with support for orientation lock
    • Test if in portrait mode by testing if the window height is greater than the window width, and if so, pause the game and show a 'please go back to landscape orientation' message.
