I would say the DS alot of good games. I really dont know anything good for the Itouch off the top of my head. DS has hotel dusk trauma center, phoenix write, chrono trigger and many other games.

PSP has a massive library of games, or a DS if you have to - scribblenauts looks great

Edit: Ah! he might want to look at the GP2X actually http://gp2x.co.uk/ very awesome handheld linux console/pc and comes with all the dev ware to make stuff for it as well. Although, if you wait for their other product, Open Pandora http://openpandora.org/, it's going to be even better =D

If he's looking purely for a gaming machine... DS, hands down. I love my iPhone, but gaming is more of an 'extra' on it - and definitely not a main attraction.

I love my DS, it has lots of fun games to play. And if your friends have DSs too, it gets a ton more entertaining. For example, Mario Kart WiFi with 8 players - pure awesomeness.

small screens give me a headache. id say DS since iphone seems to have mostly crap and even things you think would be amazing got terrible reviews (monkeyball)

Of course DS would be better than the iTouch, it was specifically made for gaming.

The only game that made me even consider a PSP is God of War, which is beyond awesome.

Then again, there's Chinatown Wars for DS. Wow.

True. NES emulation is pretty good on the DS but SNES is really hit or miss. Hopefully there will be a new version of SnemulDS at some point in the future.
