Autodesk 123D - free modeling tool

  • [quote:11nvfe1w]123D is a free solid modeling software program based on the same Autodesk technology used by millions of designers and engineers worldwide. Not an engineer? No problem, with Autodesk 123D you can design precise and makeable objects using smart tools that let you start with simple shapes and then edit and then tweak them into more complex shapes.

  • Ah I was pretty happy until I saw that it only imports .obj files. Still, thanks for sharing Shinkan, it'd probably be good for developing 3D buildings/scenery and then rendering sprites from them

  • XSI mod tool is free and powerful. And also supports .obj

  • i am downloading it now (500MB+ Phew!) but i have a hard time imagining it to be able to beat my beloved Sculptis

    Did you mean Scluptris?

Anyway, I'll download tomorow and give it a try. Seems good.

  • Why do you like this better than Blender (which is also free)?

Never heard of Scluptris but it look like a sub-set of zbrush which has high marks. is Scluptris under powdered compared to zbursh?

  • it is, but its also so easy to use that even 5yo would be able to create stuff in it.

I have blender sitting on hard drive from 8 months - and i still havent figured how to texture a damn model

in Sculptris its as easy as breathing

Texturing is not that hard in Blender. Most people complain about the interface and once you get used to it the interface is fast, much faster to navigate than the $$$ packages.

Also how does Unity fit in to this equation. I have never used it but heard that have a free version.

  • I worked with Blender for a while. It's true, you can get results and have a quite good workflow - but the UI is more of a power-user-friendly interface than anything else. I felt it being terribly un-intuitive, even more if compared to C4D or Maya, etc.

Sculptris can't be compared to it, because it is very limited. On the other hand it has a very intuitive interface.

Can't check Autodesk 123D, but will asap.

  • so after playing with 123D i must say its quite nice.

itsl ike a beef-up version of Sketch Up. Quote user friendly mostly drag and drop interface who holds your hand most of the time so you dont feel lost. I need to ply with it for longer. Hope it will remain freeware.

  • You can register on Student Autodesk and get 3ds max free. I did it without a student e-mail.

  • Will the textures exported fit automatically in construct?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Also, the .net framework required an update, I did update from microsoft but the file was 0 kB of size, and the install doesen't go any farther than that.
