Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • If you're not aware Facebook recently came up with the idea of making a desktop client for its games.

    https://www.facebook.com/gameroom

My question is, would any users be interested in a Construct version of that?

    Like the arcade, but curated.

  • I guess that's a no?

How about if it could be monetised?

  • That is a great idea, actually it would be for the best of us users and for scirra to have a clone of the steam greenlight system as an application which will hold games or demos made with C2, and which supports ads monetization. Much better option than having a website.

The greenlight clone system will let people decide whether a game is worth being uploaded to the library or not.

Or instead, force users to pay a registration fee.

  • Desktop ads would probably be fairly easy to implement. Ad networks are a bit shy about that though.

Payments would be much more complicated as Im not sure Nwjs could be made secure for Pci regulations.

That is if Nwjs was used. It would definitely be the easiest.

    its not a recent thing.

great idea indeed for C2 arcade. not for facebook... they messed it up though. more then 60% of their games in gameroom are unplayable, unless u want to play solitaire all day there.

but great idea for C2 arcade.

  • Amazon's cdn isn't that bad, and with curation it shouldn't have the bandwidth of the Arcade.

That does bring up content delivery. It's possible to download games, and store them locally, but is that really needed?

I wouldn't mind getting an opinion from Tom and Ashley

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Does facebook allow 3rd party ads in those games and is there a charge for the service?

I stopped using FB a year ago so I may rejoin if they have a decent game system for promoting our games.

Sorry looks like it is just for FB games and if someone knows how to submit games to FB please share?

Yes I think instant gaming is going to replace app games as I have said many times so a downloadable game store front would work well for that if it doesn't take up much memory.

  • My take on Gameroom is that if it's a html5 game you just submit it for approval, but they seem to be pushing pretty hard for Unity. https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/g ... ic_rollout

Just as regular Facebook, html5 has to host its own content.

My question would be: For a Construct type of desktop arcade, is it better to host the games in one place, or have the game creator host their own files?

I set up my arcade so the game developers can store it on their own website and just provide me the code link or on a website like the Scirra arcade and provide the code link.

Not all game developers are comfortable uploading their games to an unknown website owner so I think having that option would be best.

  • I don't trust Facebook and refuse to play games on their site. I am not sure I would trust any application of theirs that I install on my desktop either, lol.
